If it doesn't have a plate for the pump it must be the earlier tank with pump mounted on the frame.
I know of a 2003 EVT that has an internal pump, and it is an 03 build. DonG
I made phone calls to two different owners of '03 models , one bike is familiar , one isn't . Both have external pumps , but both owners believed there was a mid year change to the internal pump . Go figure . Dusty
My 2003 EV has an internal fuel pump.
Does it have the heated grips and powerlet?
i concur. There must be 03s that use the external pump.
Thank you for the repliesNick... Beautiful bike... mine is nowhere near that...Dilliw... want to sell that tank??? I am going to make sure I get the rest of the bike sorted first before I try and give it a make-over.Time to search for a thread about which oil to use in the bike
Wonder why they changed to an internal pump ? The internal pump is hard to get to, and even harder to put back in. I had to pull mine on my '04 to replace a faulty fuel light thermistor, and fitting all that back in the tank was like figuring out a Rubik's cube !
Internal does simplify the plumbing. The external pump setup runs pressurized hoses all over the place. And around 2003, some spine framed models would boil the fuel in the external lines that passed near the cylinder. Stop for gas on a hot day, and it would vapor lock. There you would sit for the next half hour, or you could hope for a rain to cool it off. When they switched to the internal pump, that was cured. And replacing the external filter stuck in the backbone of the Tonti frame was not easy. In some ways, getting the plate back on there is easier then replacing the external filter in the EV. On my EV, I pulled the plate, repaired a hose that popped off, and reinstalled the plate, all on the side of the road near Rome Georgia once.
