82 has the cam problem. They fixed em for 83 I am told. My brother put a lot of miles on his with no problem.
With a passenger the front gets light.
They were pretty durable bikes.
Most people got tired of the feet high and forward seating position. Many got parked and never ridden again. Don't know why.
Some 83's still had a lot of cam issues. I had an 83 V65 Magna, no problem. A friend had an 83 V65 Saber, it lost the top end. Something about differences in the oil plumbing.
My 83 XL600 ate the cam. Soft parts. I redid the top end and the replacement parts appeared to be good.
I never could get used to the feet up and forward position. But I always remember the feeling of twisting the throttle and that motor coming alive.
