The Eagle keeping a lookout... NGC
« on: March 06, 2020, 06:00:58 PM »
We had a visitor today, keeping watch over a turkey that apparently crash landed in the crotch of a seventy foot tall tree and has been hanging there for three days...

I will spare you the image of the turkey but suffice it to say that the crows have been interested and now two Bald Eagles.

This one keeping watch over the bounty.  Funny, the crows have disappeared.

Due to the cover of the leave less canopy branches, focus on the Eagle was not easy.

It's simple, Eagles like to eat crow to. Crows know that.

Funny, the crows here will harass an eagle for a while until they get used to each other. Your eagles must be bad ass!

Great shots. We have had one to three off and on this winter. Hard to get decent picture of as they are very shy. Had to use a lot of telephoto to get this shot.

awesome photos....thanks for that!!

Yes, crow and eagle habitat overlaps and often crows who live communally will attack Eagles on "their turf" or even remotely near their nest or nesting areas. The ornithological term for a group of crows is " a murder of crows" and there is good reason for that!  We get to watch crews, eagles and turkeys interact often here along the river... if the turkey is injured it's time is short :) but they do roast in trees at night to stay away from predators..if not...they are bad ass with spurs on the back of their legs for defense.

Early this morning two crows were chowing down on the carcass while one was doing a dive bombing dance with the Eagle sitting atop a tall pine, seemed not bothered at all.

This bears repeating...awesome shot! I wanna see the turkey guts!

Thanks, great subject.

The best I can do for the hapless turkey... poor son of a gun was found hanging upside down about five days ago.  The crows followed shortly after and then the Eagles.

Late this afternoon one Eagle came by just prior to sunset.  Still hard to get a good shot of him in the tree tops, at least there are no leaves yet.

Osprey platform behind the house a favorite place for Eagle to have lunch...........whe n owls aren’t in residence.

Understand a Great Horned will kick butt on a Bald Eagle.
