Lowered V9 handlebar - adjustment question
« on: March 27, 2020, 03:18:07 PM »
Hi all

I changed out my risers today for the Roamer/Bobber Sport ones. It lowers the handlebars significantly which looks better to me.

The issue I am having is that the brake fluid reservoir line hits the right fork cap when I try rotate the handlebar up. I can adjust all the other controls but I am unsure what to do with this. I could rotate it towards me to give it just a little extra space but that means the mirror would be too low and front brake would rotate with it.

Any ideas for an inexperienced non-wrencher.  See video below for my issue.

Thanks in advance

Looks as though you can rotate the banjo fitting to sit above the stopblock on the master cylinder. Should be able to just barely loosen the fitting bolt  so as to not lose any fluid or let in any air. You would need to remove  the master cylinder from the handlebar to rotate it. Hope this helps.

Thanks Paul

So in my attached pic, red is the stock block and the green arrow is what I should be loosening carefully? I can’t see how I could rotate it with that piece that I assume is the stop block which prevents the banjo from rotation up.

I was able to rotate the brake and reservoir down a little which allowed me to rotate the handle bar up but I still need just another half inch or less.

You are correct, after you break the fitting loose remove the master cylinder from the handlebar and rotate  it so the fitting is now above the stop block. Probably should remove the mirror and the stoplight switch wire to make it easier to rotate the master cylinder.

You can turn the brake fluid reservoir slightly as described. But this is not really necessary, because the smalll dislocation has no effect on the functionality. Putting the lines on the end of the fork is also unproblematic, I have been riding with a lowered handlebar for a year now - no problem. It's all a little tight, but in the end everything fits perfectly.

That's a good suggestion.  Just be careful, and only loosen that banjo bolt enough to rotate the banjo up without letting and fluid out.  Brake fluid will eat your paint.  Cover anything metal work nearby.
