V9 rear shock choices?
« on: April 02, 2020, 10:05:37 AM »
So, i'm starting to shop for rear shocks for my V9 Bobber. In trying to balance price vs performance vs value, what would you all choose. It's a V9 so I get I wont be racing anywhere but I am looking for a relatively comfortable and plush ride. I'm trying to stay under $700 so Matris goes out the window.

I have a few options and I can probably swing any of the below but it would be nice to save a few $ in the name of price vs performance vs value. Most of my previous bikes have usually had great suspension that I never really needed to fiddle with. This is the first bike I've owned where I'm just not happy with the suspension set up.

1. 2Win/Ws Shock Factory - $470 (No VAT)

2. Ohlins S36PL - $750 (No VAT)

3. Bitubo WMT Shock Absorber - $663 (No VAT)

Wilbers works fine, but its a little bit out of your budget.

Way out of my price ;)

I need money left over for other mods!

You left out Ikon.  Not quite as sophisticated as some but far superior to stock and the best value hands down.

I had a look at the Ikon but for just a little more money, I was looking at the Shock Factory as an option.

I hear very favorable reports on those.  Never had the pleasure to try.

The Bitubo WTMM02 are on the V7 I & II racer with good reviews.
I will choose these shocks.
Or the Öhlins, may be it is the good same on the V7 III racer without hydraulic adjustments...

I was very happy with the IKON 7610s I put on my V7II. A solid upgrade from stock. Price might be good for you now with $AU 585 will be around $350 in your money. Not sure how much shipping would be.

Cheers,

I just replaced the shocks on my Breva 750 with Ikon 7610s. I specifically wanted shorter ones. See the link in my signature.

They give a really good plush ride, both for solo and 2-up. I'm very happy with them. With the AUD at its current levels you should be laughing!

I don't think Bitubo with piggy back are available for V9, check Bitubo website.
I'm in your same situation, I think I'll go with BITUBO G0029WME02V2.

I agree with Harryc - Ikon shocks are very good quality. I have no experience with them on a Moto Guzzi, but on other bike they're great.

Or G0029WME52V2 , 370mm -> maybe the travel shock is better, longer.

If you're interested in chasing a possible bargain down on IKONs, Wolfgang at Columbia Car and Cycle in British Columbia, Canada,  http://www.laverda.ca/, is continuing to service IKONs, but will no longer be selling them; he's got good discounts on remaining stock, and with the favorable exchange rate, you may luck into a bargain if he's got your size, he didn't have them for my CalVin when I last spoke with him. fwiw

After reading this thread and doing a lot of on line digging I decided to go with the Ikon 7610s for my Bobber. Ordered from AF1 for $356 with free shipping. I have already spent a lot on add ons and aftermarket exhaust so had to cut the costs somewhere. Not looking to go racing but just looking for not getting kicked in the kidneys ever so often. I will post how it works out.
