My fearsome guard dog on alert;

Taken a few years ago and his look has now changed as one of his ears has 'flopped' in his old age...

Ellie, on the right, was in charge of the world...keeping everything and everybody neat, organized, and accounted for...Baxter, on the other hand, was a perfectly joyous dog, lazy a$$ after being rescued, loved a roof and food, and his napping spot on the hot sun driveway, and us. Pure happiness.

I have a small talking dinosaur that lives in my bedroom and spends the day issuing commands and threats.  She has strong opinions on many subjects, especially on the topic of her preferred cookies.  She can be very loving and affectionate if the mood strikes her.  Oh, and she can *perfectly* imitate any known sound:  the sound of a ringing cell phone, a microwave beeping, a dog barking, a cat meowing, a dog’s squeaker toy, Star Trek phasers, my wife coughing, etc.

We have three rescues.  First, Gracie, the 13-year-old snow beagle.

Then Zorro (three years old) and Romeo (two). Despite appearances these guys are mighty hunters.

Just me and my 'ride or die' these days, Brodie
As a 7 week old I tried to get him cozy around a running Guzzi, and it just didn't take. This dog is utterly unfazed by the most violent thunder storms, but doesn't care for a running motorcycle.

Last week he felt his instinctive call when we hiked adjacent a to a dairy farm and he spotted grazing cattle. He was locked for a good 5 minutes, barely showing signs of breathing.

Tink and Flops.
Flops (blond one) literally wondered into the library I was then managing about 9 year ago, covered in mud, fleas, no collar, and growling at me whenever I tried to spproach her while she was circling the interior landing.  I sat down on the steps of the landing and waited.  A few minutes later she stopped growling, hopped up on the step beside me and the rest was history.  Took her home, bathed her (fleas floated out greatly from her body), fed her, and I think she literally slept in my wife’ lap for 3 straight days following this.  I think that’s just one of the reasons she bonded so greatly with my wife  and not so much with me   Canines instinctively know who the better caretaker is  :boozing:  I try and remind her often that I’m the one that saved her but she smartly never much listens.

Tink is the grey boy we got from Shihtzu rescue organization.  He’s a terror but we love him.  When we got him we thought we were getting another sweet Shihtzu but it wasn’t long after we got him home that we knew something was different about him and his “brain on fire”    personality and long legs were an oddity.  Had him checked and turns out he’s only about half Shihtzu and either Jack Russell or another working terrier of one kind which explained a lot. LOL
Pic of me in my morning walking clothes as well.

Early last spring, I had to put Max, my 12 yr old male German Shepherd down.

I wasn't really looking for a dog; I usually have a good one by my side, but the universe has always brought them to me or across my path.

It was only a month or so later that, I learned that the Perth Vet Hospital had a rescue Shepherd that had been brought in for euthanasia, up for adoption; this was one of the photos that they had posted of Sasha, a 4 yr old female.

Here is a shot of Sasha settling into her new home, making sure that the neighbor's cows are behaving.

I know she comes with some challenges, every animal or human does, but she is the most beautiful dog, extremely smart and playful.

I can't understand how someone could've made the decision to put her down.

The universe has a way of making things work out best, I'm very glad to have her.

So many great pics, especially of now-gone best friends.  I'll add one more of my cross-eyed cat named Bubba. He was my only pet for some really tough years.  Bub was 6 when our daughter was born.  From tea parties & dress-up to mischief & punishment, they were inseparable.  This pic from when Carolina (now 16) was about a year old says it all-

My 13 year companion. Such a great dog. Her hips are starting to fail, and she has been mostly deaf the last two years, but thankfully when I was training and raising her, I used hand commands and signals. Hate that this may be her last year.

Trying to figure out "What's wrong with this picture?"

Looks like a nice riding set up for the dog with a seat, harness, and an interested-in-what's-going-on pup .... ?

From left to right: Coffee, Stella and Luna. All three rescues. My Stella only recently passed away after being with us for almost 16 years. Photo taken when we were living in Italy a few years back.

This is Thor the white boxer.  Not blind or deaf,(common malady in white boxers), and about 10 or 11 - not entirely sure as he came to us from the local pound.  It’s been 9 years with Boo Boo (wife’s name for him).  Dogs are good people.
