Basically, it was the sun in her eyes thing. I was going down the road and she left turned into a McDonalds and flat out didn't see me. I tried to lay the bike down and I still had momentum and flew up on her hood. I think the dent is from my left hip. I was nose to nose with her with just the windshield between us. Her neck hurt and wanted a rescue squad.I declined going to the ER because of this virus shit and I would have refused anyway! Clutch lever and carburetor manifold are the key things wrong with the bike although it still ran enough to get back to the hotel. She was cited so that's good. The beer truck guy saw it and talked to the cop as well.

It will take more than an Outlander to take me out!
MG Cycle stocks everything and hopefully they can ship it red and I will be rolling tomorrow.
Mainly the delrin intake manifold and clutch lever. Cool that it ran ok on one cylinder to get back to the hotel.

Ok, I am rethinking my original post. I copied this from a post to family within minutes of getting the bike back to the hotel. What appears to be more accurate, I remember the car almost stopped as I was nearing it and then I saw her pull in front of me anyway. I remember hitting the brakes hard and trying to steer to the right to avoid a direct hit. I saw the curb in front of me and went harder to the right but the bike went down on the left side as I rose up and turned my shoulder towards the car to brace for impact. That's when I slid up on the hood and my left hip went into the car hood. My shoulder against the windshield and me staring nose to nose with her.

I was a witness a few months ago for a road crash in front of my son's house; I was out in the yard. Straight two-lane highway; a woman in her small Ford had slowed and stopped, brake lights on, blinker on, to make a left turn and had to wait for oncoming traffic.

The car coming up behind her never even slowed down and hit her in the rear at 55-60 MPH, spinning the front car around and into the opposite ditch. The car behind smashed its front end pretty good and ended up in the right ditch.

I ran over to the lady (70+ years old) who had gotten hit. She had her harness on but the impact bounced her off the seat and forward into the steering wheel, which cut her face pretty badly and stunned her. I glanced at the other woman across the road - her air bag had gone off, and she ALREADY (still, as it turns out) had her phone in her hand talking away.

I hung with the lady in the front car, finding her glasses and pocketbook which were worrying her (they were behind the back seat), making sure she wasn't bleeding anywhere else other than the face and scalp wound (which bled pretty freely), and mainly making sure she stayed put, since there was no fire, no heavy bleeding, and she was a lot better off sitting still in the car until the medics showed up and I backed off.

The state trooper there opined that the sun had been in the woman's eyes; I had another opinion and expressed what I had seen.

They must have checked the phone records, because the woman who had caused the crash was charged with impaired driving (phone usage) along with failure to yield and the other things that you get when you hit someone from behind.

Your one MIGHT have been the sun ... or not.

Good job of avoiding more serious outcome. I can only imagine what could have been rolling through her brain when she was nose to nose with you sprawled on her hood?

It's quite a surreal feeling when you get into an accident. I'm glad you are mostly fine. Also happy that there was a witness to corroborate your story.

I must say that having sun in your eyes is a facile excuse. If there is sun in your eyes as a driver then you need to exercise extra caution--it's hardly a reason to make a blind left turn so you can get your McNuggets.

Glad your okay, JB and hopefully you will be compensated to your satisfaction when all this is over. Sun in my eyes and didn't see him should be legally removed from the excuse list.

Chalk-up another one John, it's all exposure. Glad it wasn't worse & you're not hurt bad. I don't want to learn how to walk for a 4th time. Bike fared well, better than the pick-up crash. Stay safe.

I'm not worried about it. If it was the cell phone, I would be quite angry but it was an accident and I am slightly sore and I can fix the bike for under $200. MG Cycle just sent me an invoice and my parts will be here tomorrow and I will be riding it tomorrow evening.

Glad to hear you came out of it as well as you did, that was way too close.

Damn, JB! I am glad you are ok.After looking at the pics, what amazes me, is here you bounced off the hood and windshield of an suv, completely ripping off a carb, and were able to ride off from the scene under your own power, and the lady who is sitting safely , in her bucket seat,behind all the metal of the suv, loaded with airbags everywhere, requested an EMS response for her neck! Amazing! I always knew Guzzisti were tough old birds, but you just "raised the bar" where toughness is measured, JB!

Sorry for the collision but I nor the MSF would EVER advocate "Laying it down" as you are there by inducing an accident which you were trying to avoid. IN retrospect it would be utilizing the brakes and swerving as you did as the proper thing to do. Sometimes collision is unavoidable but braking would help contain the speed. Live and learn. WHY now I always advocate for buying a MC with ABS and know how to use them and ATGATT People driving distracted has never worried more than it does today when we are so fragile compared to 2 tons of metal.

Glad you are OK. Now if you had been like some yuou would have laid on the ground until the ambulance got there to take care of , ah, your sprained back and neck injury.

When I was driving truck that was a bright yellow. I was parked with safety cones out and got hit because "she didn't see me.".
