Sipea Relay Cross Reference-NGC?
« on: May 03, 2020, 11:30:03 AM »
I'm slowly digging in to the electrics on an '82 Ducati Pantah. There were a few bits missing, regulator, Bosch ignitor, etc. I have not tested anything yet but started looking to see what's out there for replacement relays. I'm not seeing the same part # Sipea relays coming up in searches. I got thinking about cross referencing and couldn't find anything there either. So does anyone have such a chart? Is this as simple as matching Volts, Watts and maybe pins to a comparable brand? Thanks, I'm a bit confused.

Charlie beat me to it

Relays generally conform to standards, there are different types and sizes. Some pictures of an exisitng relay and perhaps the socket would help people to identify what's there already

Electrically it should just be a case of matching up the specification, but physically and the configurations can differ quite a bit

I need to verify each based on the schematic. I don't remember.
Starter relay

Flasher relay

Horn maybe or Headlight Flash relay

Generator warning light relay

Really not sure about the last one, it doesn't look like what is supposed to be at this location per the parts list. I've seen a similar style called a wiper relay which would indicate a delay of some sort. Maybe Headlight flash?

Are the terminals numbered on the bottom of the relay. Photos of the bottom are most useful but those look like common four or five pin relays. Five pin relays can generally replace four pin relays but not always, depends on how terminal are numbered. Typically #30 is 12v feed, #85 and #86 are switch and ground, usually interchangeable, but not always, #87 is to the operated item. The fifth pin may be #87 as well, if so it is simply a place to connect another item to be fed ie: second horn or some thing. If the fifth terminal is #87a it is usually used to turn something off when the relay is activated. These are the common simple wirings for that type of relay, they can be wired in more complex fashion but it isn't commonly found on motorcycles particularly motorcycles this old.
