Black Eagle California side stand

The side stand on my 2010 Black Eagle is far too long to hook back comfortably with my heel, unlike my 2003 EV. So I have been experimenting with gluing a spare nut as a stop. The nut could be a bit thicker but I am loath to bring the side stand much further back. Eventually I will get a nut spot welded there, when I can get out to my local spanner man. I am told that you can also remove one of the springs to make retraction easier but I will leave things alone for now.

Removing 1 spring works really good, the single spring has no problem holding it up.

I would not do what you have shown in your photos.
The cam is supposed to go into the area under that little roller where you glued the nut to prevent the bike from rolling off the kick stand when the bike is facing a slight decline. It is a safety feature.

As mentioned, don't use the nut.

I'll have to double check my EVT latter, but I think that the tab on the stand should be in line with the stand, not at an angle. When the nut loosens over time, the square hole in the tab and sometimes the square on the stand get rounded allowing the stand to go farther forward. Put you bike on the center stand and retract the side stand and give the tab a little whack with a hammer and see if it moves. If it does, sometimes adding a washer under the nut will solve it.

I have found that if the hole in the cam/tab starts to round out, that tightening the nut will not hold it in the position you want.
The best option is to order a new cam/tab. They are around $15 I think. The good news is that the side stand usually does not round out, just the cam.

Ah, thank you. That may be the cause of the problem. I will investigate, and remove the nut! I would be interested to see about your EV.

Oopps, my EVT has the chrome cover, not taking that off for a pic and my other 2 that use the same stand, the pic won't show up good.

I'm pretty darn sure that the tab is the issue on your bike. It should be pretty much inline with the stand. As mentioned a cheap fix could be as easy as tightening the nut for the tab. But again as mentioned, it does not always work.

I would pull the tab off and take a good look at the hole, it should be a square. Fit it back on the stand and see if you can twist it. If you can, get a new one. If in a pinch, and depending on how much gap there is, you could try shimming it with something. I looked at doing that, I decided to get a new tab.

Also look at the mount where you glued the nut. I had one that was all worn out and not stopping the tab where it should. Years ago I had a friend weld the worn area and I ground it flat. Or, just get a new one.

Note.....If you get a new mount, make sure that it fits the stand. I had what I believe is  the same stand as yours on my EVT. I bought a new mount, would not fit over the stand. None of my other mounts would fit over this stand except a very worn out one.

As far as removing a spring to make it easier. I did that, much better. You will also need to make a new hole in the little triangle tab that the springs mount to. Right between the original spring holes. This will give it some tension.

I want to add this.......Removing a spring can be dangerous. I believe they used 2 springs for safety. If one breaks the stand will most likely not go down.

EDIT. just a tip. On my Loops, I pull the stand with the ball of my foot. My EVT even with just one spring I can't pull the stand easily, maybe the angle or whatever. I found that if I pull it with the heel of my boot, it comes right up!

Sorted. I turned the tab over, as advised elsewhere on this site, and the stand is now past the vertical but far less than it was originally. Who knows, perhaps the guy on the assembly line assembled the stand incorrectly in the first place.
