« on: June 04, 2020, 08:08:28 AM »
Is there a replacement headlight that fits the stock US shell and Ring (and all parts within) that has higher output than the stock T3/G5/Convert? LED maybe? The original projector in those are the sealed type

Plenty. I currently have a JW Speaker LED sealed unit in my Convert, but previous had an Autopal H4 headlight with LED bulb. Hella, Cibie and many other H4 headlights will fit, then it's just a choice of bulbs (halogen or LED). If going with halogen, then relays are a very good idea.

Installation of the JW Speaker unit did required a little modification to the inner rings. It's a bit thicker than a sealed beam, so I found it necessary to elongate the screw holes. The Autopal headlight required no alteration.

Charlie,
Did you buy the JW Speaker Adaptive Series that senses lean angle and fills in dark areas during cornering? JW Speaker is one of my customers and I picked up marketing material that features a new gen V7...

Ok, thanks Charlie. I think I'd want to go full blown LED sealed vs the H4 with LED bulbs. Is JW Jeep Wrangler?

I'm too cheap to spring for one of those.  This is the one I bought:

Still not inexpensive, but worth it IMO.

I have LED auxiliary lights to fill in any "dark spots", light up the ditches, fields, woods, etc.

The cheap and simple way to get more light on the road is to just fit an Osram Nightbreaker bulb, or the Philips equivalent. 50% more light, no modification to do.

No, brand name: JW Speaker, this one:

Truck-Lite is another I considered. There are numerous LED sealed beams available on Amazon and ebay. Such as this one:

Yes, that will work too. However, it's best to have relays wired in to minimize the load being handled by the switches and maximize the voltage the headlight is receiving.

However, it will still be using 3 times as many watts as an LED (60 vs. 20). While that may not be a concern for later Guzzis with higher output alternators, Loops with their 300 watt generator or for bikes retrofitted with improved charging systems, it is a huge help for early Tontis (large and small) with their 180 or 220 watt Bosch charging systems.

Seems this one doesn't break the bank to try for sure. Again, thanks. So basically a 7" that fits.

Be careful, with some of the  cheap, sealed LED headlight units  available on Amazon to fit Harley 7" applications, and Jeep Wranglers. Even though they "look" like a Harley "daymaker", they are not even close, in light output or beam pattern on the road. I have had many of my HD riding buddies buy those, and then remove them,as they cant see the road at night very well.
My son went through the same thing with his XR 1200,and then ended up buying the real daymaker, to have a light that you can ride with ,and actually see the road.
The JW Speaker unit is a completely different story. Thats a well made dot approved light. Anything in the $35- $60. price range will not be very good. Even though prices are coming down, you still have to spend close to $200. to get a decent unit.
I installed a sealed LED unit called the Koso Thunderbolt in my Griso, and thats a quality headlight, but it was almost $300, and required some mods to install in the stock bucket.
Rick.
