What's going on here?
« on: June 30, 2020, 05:25:01 AM »
I've started getting a few post displays like this one (#3). Appears to be a post but nothing displays or name comes up.
Any ideas?

I've been getting that too for a while. I thought I had accidentally blocked someone.

What happens if you backspace and reopen it? I've noticed advertising has changed on the site. When i come to the site the first time I try to open a thread I get a blank page or sometimes a full page ad ... after hitting the back arrow and reopening the page displays normally.
It's not always the same, sometimes the page is blue and looks like something is opening but it never does. I think there's something new going on with the way ads are placed in the wildguzzi forum.

I was informed it is due to having an adblocker program. Skips the ad but leaves the header.

I see them sometimes, a "Post" from "WildGoose Chase Moto Guzzi" that is empty, no title or body.   I get the impression that there used to be an advertisement there, but there isn't any more.   It's pretty unobtrusive - I hadn't even noticed that they were there until this post pointed them out.

Not an issue for me.

For the eleventeanth time , yes

The site depends on advertising to cover some of the budget shortfall , clicking on an ad puts a couple of pennies in the till .

What Dusty said.  Advertising covers roughly 25% of the costs and keeps me from begging for more money. Advertising revenue last year alone paid for a new firewall that protects everyone here from viruses and malware. Had it not been for that, I would have had to beg for roughly $1000 by December alone. And if that goal wouldn't have happened, I'd have had no choice but to pony up the rest out of my own pocket, or let the site lapse altogether.

Ads have put about $500 in the bank this year alone. That's $500 that I don't have to ask for and more money in your gas tanks because of that.

So yes, I understand the desire for ad blockers and use them on certain sites myself...but they are hurting this site. That said, it's still America...for now.

I'd click on more ads if they were for guns motorcycles and cars, and not bras, clothes, and 'meet hot Russian bikers'....   Joking... But seriously, it seems like the ads I get on WG are totally different than from other forums or facebook which are all related to my search history for: cars, guns, motorcycles, scotch, Tesla, and history. On WG?  It is for random weird stuff... Wait.... Nevermind, I get it.... It is Wild Guzzi.....
