Need help identifying a nipple
« on: July 01, 2020, 09:00:35 PM »
I installed manual petcocks on my Quota. However, there is an unknown nipple that is on the right side of their e tank. In the pic you can see it under the hose. Nothing was attached to it when I disassembled it, so if I need to hook up a hose or plug it off I’d appreciate finding out from you good folks.

Air vent for regulator, no hose. Allows atmospheric pressure to one side of regulator diaphragm . In some other applications, mostly automotive, it hooks to manifold vacuum to help control fuel pressure. I have not seen that nipple used on Guzzis.

Actually a nipple is a straight pipe fitting with theads on each end (sort of like a hollow stud).

The "extra" connection on the regulator is a barb.

"In plumbing and piping, a nipple is a fitting, consisting of a short piece of pipe, usually provided with a male pipe thread at each end, for connecting two other fittings.

The length of the nipple is usually specified by the overall length with thread. It may have a hexagonal section in the center for a wrench to grasp (sometimes referred to as a "hex nipple"), or it may simply be made from a short piece of pipe (sometimes referred to as a "barrel nipple" or "pipe nipple"). A "close nipple" has no unthreaded area; when screwed tightly between two female fittings, very little of the nipple remains exposed. A close nipple can only be unscrewed by gripping one threaded end with a pipe wrench which will damage the threads and necessitate replacing the nipple, or by using a specialty tool known as a nipple wrench (or known as an internal pipe wrench) which grips the inside of the pipe, leaving the threads undamaged. When the ends are of two different sizes it is called a reducer or unequal nipple."

Only if you have two throttle bodies. And well, other unrelated things...

Lol! Well, I did consider “gas tank thingy” but figured that was worse, if such a thing is possible! 😂

You connect a hose from said niparb to the pressurized side of your forced induction, thus increasing fuel pressure proportional to boost. Keeps your pistons from melting.
