WWII Kriegsmarine Binoculars
« on: July 19, 2020, 06:59:34 PM »
I came across this on one of the ham radio boards I visit.

I thought somebody on this board might find this of interest.  Mods, delete if you think it's out of line.

Scarce WW II souvenir. Many of these binoculars "went down with the ship".

"General purpose" naval binoculars made by Carl Zeiss - Jena circa 1940. With cross hairs and graticule for range finding and gunnery. Individual diopter adjustments for each eye.

Optics in excellent condition. Housing shows wear commensurate with combat use and age.

Nikon-branded leather case included.

Asking $500 OBO. Discount for cash payment and pickup

Payment: Negotiable. NO PAYPAL!

Last winter I ran across a Ziess Jena circa mid 1930s with the original leather case at an estate sale for $8.00. Had it cleaned and adjusted for about $300. Well worth it IMHO. Think of it as ultimate recycling.

Thread drift. I'm going to be selling my Dads ham radios and stuff. I was going on eBay and offer ww shipping to possibly boost value, my mom and brothers want me to get top dollar .. but should I instead advertise on a ham forum? Which one? Thx,  now back to fine German glass.

My father, UK Navy destroyer captain, was in Kiel at the end of the war. He and his crew were allowed to go into the German stores and take whatever they could carry. So he brought back a cased barograph, a cased sextant and two pairs of U-Boat binoculars. He gave away the sextant  :embarassed: but I still have the other items.
