I'm looking for an app that will track the routes that I ride on a given day. I know there are apps out there that will allow you to plan your ride for you but I'm looking for an app that will track the routes that I ride on a given day. Just looking for an app that can show me where I have ridden. Anyone know of that type of app for riding?

I have a virtual trash can full of such apps, but recently found Scenic (apple based, no android application yet). WOW, it is so much easier to use than any of the others. Admittedly, my love for this app has to do with how much better is it for route planning and ANYTHING else, but it also does tracking.
One thing I don't know though, is how useful it is for exporting your routes - say to create a map "screenshot" like some people post from time to time. It may be able to do that, but I just haven't tried it.

Other apps you might look at include Mapmyride, Rever, Ride with GPS. They all have their pros and cons, but Scenic has been hands down the most intuitive, functional and easy to use for me.

Road ID is a great one and will send out data to wherever you want as well, been using it for a long while and like it....

This probably isn't what you're looking for, but I've used "RELIVE" (bicycle app?). It shows a 3D video of your ride loop over the map...and stops during the video and shows any pictures you've taken with your smartphone.

I'll second Scenic. I was looking for an app for route planning and route tracking, and it does both. I've been really happy with it so far. Lots of customization and you can also export your routes in gpx format. The ability to search for routes shared by other members is good also. I've only been using it for about three weeks though, so I can't speak for long-term usability yet.

I've got one called Rever. It will track your ride and you can share it with others, along with some other features. I'm sure there are better ones out there.

I used REVER for awhile, really wanted to like it because the developer lives in my home state, but struggled with it. Found Scenic, and REVER is history.

How does Scenic work when there is no cell service, much of our local area doesn't have cell service.
I have been using Spot, I just did a 2 day trip well outside cell coverage and it seems to have it covered.

Roy, it uses gps and downloaded state/province maps that reside on your phone. No cel service required. Downloading the maps is very easy.

A little off subject. I recently purchased a Beeline unit from a fellow WG member. It's a phone based nav unit that give directions with a module pointing an arrow. The phone app works well with mapping.

Easily build your own routes and save them in the route planner, or import any GPX file

Regular old google maps will show your route on any given day as long as your phone's gps was turned on (and if you have a google account).

Phones work off cellular data, not satellite. Unless you have one of THOSE phones.

Actually GPS is on all phones. But for you the user, to get the benefit you will have setting prompt called "Location".

But whether you use that feature or not, so long as you have your phone, you can be tracked by GPS.

I'm not talking about navigation. If you log into your google maps timeline from any browser (https://www.google.com/maps/timeline?pb)
and type in any day in the calendar it will show all the routes you took that day, as long as your gps was turned on.

This feature got me out of trouble with the wife a few years ago. She had fallen and hit her head which landed her in the ER a few days. Months later she asked why i never visited her while she was there, i opened up google maps, typed in the day and showed exactly the route and times i was there at the hospital (i.e. basically the whole time visiting hours were on).

Also, if your phone has navigation then it has gps which can be turned on or off. Any smartphone has it.

I use the built in Google location history on my phone. It is low power and does not consume the battery.
A few years back I rode across the country. It tracked my location accurately from Georgia to Montana. In Yellowstone it oddly jumped from there to 50 miles away in Cody. Likely due to no cell tower for a few hours. But it never missed a beat the other 12 days of the trip.
The only issue, if you can call it that. If the phone is off, the update rate is like every 3 minutes. If the phone on, it updates very often, and very accurately. Since I often the phone as a GPS, it is always accurate for me. It runs 24/7, so I can tell you exactly where the restaurant was that I stopped at 3 years ago on a Friday night, or whatever.
Unless you are one of those paranoid people, there is no reason to NOT use it.

I use app called Speed Tracker: GPS Speedometer. If you have a phone mount you can display speed or a map while you ride. If you turn tracking on, it will record data that you can later display as a map track, a graph of speed, or distance, elapsed time, travel time, stopped time, average speed and maximum speed data. Notice a couple of large 'jumps' in the plot. That is because you likely had your phone off.
When my phone is on, I get a very detailed map. All automatic. No farting with additional apps.
