Breva 1100 fuel pump?

I hear a whine coming from inside the gas tank on my Breva 1100. I hear it running with cap closed and louder when open. Bike idles and runs fine but i have concerns.  Previous owner replaced plastic filter with a metal one around 15,000 miles and now has a little over 22,000. Sounds did not change with half tank or full tank of gas.

Replace filter and pump/ Suggestions? How to ect from experience?

I would expect the pump to last at least 100,000 miles
Perhaps measure the pump current they normally run just over 4 amps but can draw up to 9 if the pump is struggling through a blocked filter.

Look at relay (30), if you pull it out and place an Ammeter between the socket 3 - 5 it will make the pump run continuously, Don't turn the key On you don't want it to start.

Can you hear it with the engine running?  Mine will run for a couple of seconds when the key is turned on, then stop - I can hear it then or if I turn it on with GuzziDiag.  But once the engine is running can't really hear it.

As Chris says but you will hear it if the filter is plugged because it really loads it up thats why I say measure the current.

Might be worth running the tank low and have a scruch about inside with a boroscope if you can lay your hands on one.

I borrowed one from work which is how I know I have a metal filter 

They're not expensive as an attachment for your phone though

Just a caution to keep in mind. Be very careful with your cell phone around gas fumes. They can cause a static electric spark which will ignite the gas vapors.
Also, don’t run with scissors. Look both ways before crossing the road...😂😂😂

Current thinking seems to be moving away from that position, but I wasn't some thing I had considered

So boroscope your tank at your own risk!!!

I would be taking the tank off & the pump out. Check that the sock is clean, that nothing on the pump has corroded, and that the tank overflows are clean and free. Once you've solved the mysteries of the QD hose fitting, the biggest bugbear is getting most of the remaining fuel out. Have a spare length of submersible hose (Gates SAE 30R10 5/16ths) and a couple of clamps (good quality stainless, rounded edges, or oetikers) handy, just in case.

Did as you suggested and reads 4.2

Now to figure out the noise

It only makes "the noise" with the bike running and is amplified if you open the gas cap.

I would say there's nothing wrong at 4.2 Amps thats normal current. I never run mine with the cap open so I don't hear it.
The initial 2 seconds I hear when the motors not running of course thats just the pump priming ready for a start attempt all FI guzzis do that.

Yes, aware of the normal 2-4 sec prime from the pump. This noise is only audible when the motor is running cap open or not open. While i had the tank propped up in the back with a small piece of 2x4 I took a Mechanic's Stethoscope and placed right under the tank where the pump is. Only noise i heard was the sound of a normal fuel pump. Well full tank of gas and I'm just going to ride the hell out of it.

Just a guess - could it be from the alternator ? Opening the petrol tank could change the resonance in the tank.
I'm thinking this as the alternator is nestled up close to the tank.

replaced fuel pump and filter and sound is still there

pinched one or both hoses on manifolds that go to the EVAP system and noise goes away.

Your problem is the EVAP canister under the seat at the rear, I think.  I have a 2006 Breva 1100 and Fixed mine whine by removing the two hoses connected to the two small banjo bolt connections at the intake manifold and connecting them together with hose (Or plugging them)  and then removing the hoses to the canister.  I plan to replace the fuel filter over the winter and will then remove and reroute the hoses.  Thanks to John Zibell on GuzziTech Forum for pointing me in the right direction.

How about take the whole thing out and up end it in a container of fuel while connected to the harness and turn it on ?
If it leaps around all over the place, it’s probably shagged...
