Sunday Coffee
« on: July 27, 2020, 11:21:08 AM »
For the last few years a highlight of my riding week has been our get togethers for Sunday Coffee, Usually a bunch of diverse machines

Last week was extra special because I got to ride this old girl, a 46 Indian chief, The owner has been promising me a ride for some time.

This bike has character in spades, the front brake is almost non existent with it's original cable system but that's ok, you need to be thinking well ahead anyway.
The gear change sort of happens at its own pace. but it handles surprisingly well and is very comfortable.
With its owner in control on back country roads you have to have your wits about you to keep up.
I took it about 10 km on a fairly quiet road just pleased that I only stalled it once, I still remembered how to ride an Indian from 40 years ago.

I'll have to start working on this owner next, Royal Enfield powered by Hillman Imp

About the same era as the original Mini Hillman came out with a small car powered by a rear engined 4 cylinder motor, I think the original was a 750 but this now has a 1000cc motor
He's owned the bike since new but the original Enfield motor was replaced back in the 70s when it was loved to death.
Among innovations it has a fully enclosed rear chain driving a cush drive rear hub, his metalwork is mind boggling, the fenders for example were beaten out of flat.
Some may recognize the Norton gearbox.

Much earlier photograph.
