V85TT Instrument cluster off center??
« on: August 04, 2020, 11:03:42 AM »

Hello, my instrument cluster is offset maybe 1/2" to the right from the centerline of the bike.  It is not bad enough to be annoying but I am interested to know if anyone else had this issue?

It looks like there are two brackets that hold the cluster, headlight, fairing etc on there.

It kind of looks like the handlebar is crooked in the pic but it is straight

Thanks for any input on this!

I'll double check mine, but doubt it's off like that.  Definitely something I would have noticed, it would drive me bonkers.

Does anyone have any experience with dismantling the front system?  Wondering if this is an errant spacer or such.  I've studied the parts diagram and nothing is obvious to me.

Does the headlight veer off to the side as well?

Could the upper and lower triple trees be out of alignment?  I've had that happen (not on the V85) and it looks kind of like that when sitting on the bike.

I looked and eyeballed it and it sure does not look like it.  I think the actual piece that holds the dash is bent, or else what it mounts to.

I am going to write it off to "hand made variations" as it does not bother me.

No, not as far as I can tell.  Good question, though

Early on after the release of the V85, I remember seeing several posts from owners who thought their handlebars were crooked.  I believe I saw it on here in the main V85TT merged threadfest and also on ADVrider.  This would probably have been in 2019, but you might want to try searching and see what you find.

My 2020 is like this as well.  I plan on getting the red headlight frame and the rear powder coated black and will look into straightening it out then.  My Handle bars also appear to be off center which I’ll try to adjust at the same time.  The bike I originally test road was WAY off center, I pointed it out to the salesman who seemed stumped as to why things were so far off.  Disappointing for a brand new bike, but I still love it!

The frame mounting plate is number 2

How the dash mounts to the plate.

I had to remove the backside of the dash when installing the OEM fog lamps but I don't remember if there was any adjustment available when I did it.  My V85 dash is centered up correctly and was one of the first in the U.S. last year.

Thanks, yeah it is really minor, not enough to change but I am curious as to how it got that way.  Please let me know what you find.

Great idea, I did not think to look for handlebars!

Mine was one of the first ones in the country and the handlebars looked bent or crooked.  I have adjusted them several time, replaced the handlebars, took off the triple clamps, and they still creep back.  I just told myself the other day I need to adjust them yet again.  It's not nearly as pronounced as yours but it drives me crazy.  I will post up if I find anything new when I adjust it again, meantime, good luck - but it is a Guzzi.

Exactly, just like all the others, it is hand made with certain imperfections lol.  Thanks for the info!

He must have been really interested in your bike if he noticed that minor of a thing. However it would bug me too so I don't look for stuff like that.

Funny I shoul dsee this tonight. I just put a GPS mount on the handlebar clamp of my V85 and while the GPS looks centered on the clamp it's very slighty off compared to the dash. With no GPS mount the dash looked fine. It's not off far enough I'm worried about it but it's still noticable if you look for it.

Well, mine is serial number 0000053, so early off the line and I guess they were really QCing them so early.  I checked, straight as an arrow.  Whew, dodged a bullett.

That's about how mine is, I have to stare at it to see it.  Interesting.
