Le Mans clutch push rod o ring

G,day All,

I have recently brought a 78 Le Mans and it has a oil seep from the clutch push rod o ring at the rear of the gear box.

I have tried a new o ring with no success and on looking closely the bore on the rear of the box has a wear pattern.

I have been advised by a very knowledgeable bloke the the best way to remedy this is to have the bore sleeved with a bronze insert.

Any other thoughts from you blokes...

You could try a double o-ring outer body to see if that helps.

Ultimately though, the best way will be to bore the rear cover and sleeve it.

  All great suggestions , but way too much work ! I had a machinist turn a new one for me with an extra groove for a second "O" ring .
Don't be afraid to search for a slightly tighter fitting set of "O" rings . Certainly easier than removing the trans cover, etc.  Peter

      I have had success using an X profile O-ring. The theory is the sealing points are in a slightly different place than the round profile o-ring and there are two sealing points. Here is the one I use ----Buna #115. They are also called Quad seals.  Purchased mine from my local farm hydraulics shop. Cost a whole 48 cents U.S.- Guzzi content.

My 1977 T-3 and I went round and round, to making custom rings. Double ringed body with a new bearing is holding up.

I have done several of these with a stainless bore insert.  It is a lot of work, so I would try all the other suggestions first.  I would even try to find a good used cover before going the insert route.
