We had one down here in the 70s. It was technically not the BigFoot but a close cousin, the "MoMo" short for the Missouri Monster. The MoMo is most closely related to the Boggy Creek Monster and is smaller in stature than the BigFoot, and has a deep hatred of outhouses (privys). It is a nocturnal, exceedingly shy and normally gentle beast; has a huge round head as well as the same stench as a BigFoot. Anyone harmed by the MoMo only got hurt because they answered the call of nature in the wrong place at the wrong time... or if they angered the MoMo by unwarranted attack
The MoMo was last sighted on a rural road in Newton Co, MO doing jumping jacks and running through the woods, as witnessed by my friend Lanny Howe. Other sightings in the area were reported over several weeks and then its is as if the MoMo just vanished. Lanny later told me he had to sell the gorilla suit before someone shot him.

Little as you think about what is real, could be real or no way it could be real, reasonable people use to say no way we are being visited by extraterrestrials. Just the other day it was announced on national television that the Pentagon has been authorized to start an investigation to determine if UFO’s are a threat to the military and the nation. So can we accept they are real now?

And for decades, the same govt has gone out of it's way to discredit anyone who has observed and reported a UFO.  Ask any airline or military pilot about this.

The "Disclosure" topic has been discussed for decades.  The last few years, the scuttlebutt is the powers that be think the general populace is now ready to not flip out if the reality of ET's are disclosed.  The incubation process has supposedly been taking place for decades.

OK, just got the photos.  These tracks were 5 feet apart. All in the snow.  No other tracks around them to fake it.  Not that he'd fake it anyway.  It's fun.  Who knows?

Dusty..could you create a new section of the forum called Fantasy Land where these threads can be collected?

Funny how everyone knows someone who heard from someone who's cousin or uncle or someone they spoke to seems to have had an experience and it becomes believable, two drunk guys looking at each other saying...did that really happen?  Super scientific testing there!

Reminds me of Carlin:

All I know is that I get a feeling when I go into the woods, 'specially the Northern woods. I hate to speak in the woods, or make noise. It's almost like farting in church, . Seriously, there is something spiritual, almost holy going on in the deep woods. I cannot put it into words, but once I'm there and quieted down, I could believe damn nearly anything exists out there. Goofy, I know.

Not at all goofy.  I suspect it just means you are a much more spiritually sensitive person than most.  Congrats.

Sounds a lot like a meditative state.  You would be the person more likely to see a Bigfoot than others.

My wife and I often think the same.  We have given up on trying to explain it to others many years ago.

Funny part is if you slightly re-phrased it and said "I went to church got real quiet, and then I spoke to an angel!"  Some would be jealous, some would think you are insane.  The belief of either, luckily, has no effect on your life.

If Bigfoot is ever seen it will be at Wal Mart but no one will notice

Those who have not seen one, and claim "they know they don't exist" or claim "they know they do exist," are merely expressing their personal beliefs.  They have no database of a reality that they have not experienced.  Their opinions say more about themselves then they say about the phenomena being discussed.

A potential beyond their normal experience makes them uncomfortable.  It's just the way most people are wired.

Science is never settled.

No , this isn't about that at all . Bigfoot , or the belief in him/her is based on superstition . There has never been a scintilla of evidence produced that the creature exists .

Science is somewhat fluid in that it is always looking for any proof that might change a theorem , but that doesn't mean it isn't settled. Physicists have been attempting to prove Einstein was wrong for years , guess what , hasn't happened yet .

Think about this , we have fossil records and even skeletal remains of creatures that died millions of years ago , and yet there hasn't ever been even a tooth from a bigfoot found .

I agree with you.  Keep an open mind.  I will say, that Dusty's point that they couldn't exist due to genetic viability and assumed low population  certainly makes a lot of sense.   OTOH, I never took it seriously until I heard Dianne Fosse give it credence when she was interviewed by Terry Gross.  Then I heard all these stories from my B-I-L, so who knows?

John , those "footprints" don't look anything like footprints . Sorry , but why didn't the person taking the pictures take any from the perspective of straight above the prints . Have you ever watched a deer run , those look like where a deer's hooves were skidding in the snow as it was running .

Dusty,

As I said previously, if you read enough on the subject, you will find that the believers can refute every doubt that has been expressed in this thread.  The fact that the doubts are being raised is fine, but is also an indication that the person does not know that thought has been voiced before and responded to.  I'm not going to bother to dispute each doubt, cause I am just enjoying the wonderment.  Whether people doubt or believe, either way is fine with me.

It is a fascinating phenomena.  Travel to some parts of the county, and the locals will say "Sure, they're out there.  Everybody around here knows that.  But why would we tell anyone?  They won't believe it until they see it.  And why would we want a lot of strangers tramping around our town and woods?"

Sometime reality exists outside of our preferences.  Sometimes reality is highly localized.  Not many Tornados in the mountain states.

I enjoy the late night talk shows that deal with this.  The believer wants to sell their point of view so badly they can't shut up.
During the first four points, I find myself thinking "That is really interesting.  There may be something there."
The next three points I think "Wow!  You are really stretching the boundaries of credibility now!"
The last three points I am in full "This guy is a genuine nut case!" mode.

On the other hand, those early Z1 speedometers were wildly optimistic and inconsistent.

Believe what you will Dusty.  Free will is a wonderful thing.

As the old saying goes "Where everyone thinks alike, no one thinks very much!"

To me, that seems the most reasonable perspective but then again, their comfort zone is their comfort zone.

I'm just sharing ideas.  Not out to convert anyone to my church.  Nothing in it for me other than enjoying the discussion.

Fossil record of Gigantopithecus exists.  Serious scientists like Jeffery Meldrum and Jone Bindernagel have done research and are believers.  No doubt both are smarter than I, and their study time exceeds my reading time by a factor of a thousand or more.

Experts are experts until the latest discoveries prove them wrong.  Then they either adapt or become obsolete.

The habituation stories are the most interesting.  Interaction between Bigfoots and the local people they know and trust is fascinating.  David Paulides books are interesting.  He is a former detective.  Works with a forensic artist.  Many Native Americans think Bigfoot is not an ape, but another species of human.  The Bigfoot communicate with the elders, and the elders tell the young people "to stay out of the bog people's valleys."

In 50 Years with Bigfoot, the grandfather told his family the Bigfoot are people.  They are the Edomites.

Who knows?  Fun to wonder!

This all reminds me of a similar supernatural event that happened here in a small rural town years ago. The local pastor started getting all kinds of his parishioners seemingly believing in ghosts. After a couple of weeks of various reports of sightings , hauntings and all sorts of hysteria, the pastor brought it up at sunday service. He assured the community that there is no such thing as ghost. It's all a bunch of rumors and fear of the unknown and everyone should just forget about there being any such thing as ghosts. Then Margret Olsen stood up in the front and insisted she had heard ghostly sounds coming from her attic at night. Then Gary Evans stood up and insisted that he had actually seen ghosts in the cemetery one night. And then farmer John stood up and insisted he knows the're real because he had actually had relations with several of them. The pastor , ordered everyone to sit. He then asked the parish if they really expected him to believe that they had actually heard ,seen and god forbid, had relations with ghost?

Farmer John stood back up and said , Ghosts?  I thought you were talking about Goats!

Not discovered by who , trust me , the locals had been aware of them for thousands of years . Kind of like the idea that Columbus discovered this place , or that Janszoon discovered Australia .

It's one of my closest friends sending pictures of some shit in his yard.  I texted him just to find these photos.  Just to post them here.  He went to the trouble to do it since you made a diva request.  Get outta town man.

I don't fricking care what they look like. These weren't meant to prove  a dang thang.  Just that I had a friend that thought, "shit what the hell is this?"  FIVE foot strides.  He's heard about Bigfoot since moving there.  He's got regular bears, Muleys and Mtn Linons everyday.  Not this.

Geeeziz, I am not trying prove a flippin' thing.  Just thought it would be fun.  And BTW, my buddy has no idea what the hell these tracks are.

Goats?

Dusty,

As I said previously, if you read enough on the subject, you will find that the believers can refute every doubt that has been expressed in this thread.....

Actually, no, they can't.  Not only can they not "refute" them, but they're nudging the doubts toward "certainty" with the attempts at "proof" ...  :azn:

These discussions are fun, though.   On the one hand, if the subject were something different, you'd have the "I Fu'ing Love Science" crowd establishing some phenomenon as an absolute, Settled Science certainty due to the Scientifity of Science.

On the subject of boogeymen, heffalumps, and woozles, however, Science is ALWAYS a living, open book, with many things we don't know, with small cracks and holes widening up to admit entire parallel universes where any childhood nightmare can exist.

Always time for popcorn!
