I hate when this happens

Came over a rise, saw a small pot hole, felt a small bump and then a roar of exhaust.  I have no idea about fixing it.  I considered getting a floor jack and moving it back into place and then I saw the whole rear unit was bent out of place and the bracket broken.

I hope so.  I thought I could get into place with a flour jack.  Then I saw the broken bracket, hopefully that's a stocked part.  Or maybe Don can fab something. 

Funny, I barely felt anything.  I think a chunk of pavement broke loose when I hit the small pot hole.

What the hell has caused the massive distortion/dent in the cover on the side of the collector? surely not hitting the bottom of the collector on the road due to a pothole.Looks to me like impact damage to the collector/cat cover like you hit something large on the road, not a pothole. Anyway,how to fix? remove the muffler and collector assy and buy a new bracket and refit or try to refit and see what it's like. I'd also remove the belly pan and loosen off the header mounts and also inspect that area as well for damage, same with the rear header. Should be ok but after a hit like this the whole system may need to be loosened off and reassembled. At the very least checked for damage that's not so obvious. Don't just try and jack it into place. You'll also need to check the lambda wiring as well as it looks like it's been yanked off its clips.Oh and you'll need a new collector cover as well.

The bracket is $12 (looks like only one of two needed).   The flapper valve cover is $45.  That flapper valve cable has always been droopy, I never thought about it needing clips.

I have no idea if parts are available or back ordered.

Although it doesn't really matter but looking at the damage and location to the side collector/cat cover I'm beginning to think that this damage was done before you took it on that ride and the small pot hole you hit just shook it totally off the front pipe. Had you left it parked somewhere public before your ride? Or navigated your way in a tight parking lot with wheel bollards or such. Its always nice to know exactly how something has happened so you can asses the forces involved and possible need to look for other damage.
Not trying to worry you or anything but I've seen plenty of exhaust system damage over the years from pot holes etc but nothing quite this bad. I've seen an 851 break its rear engine mount on the crankcase when the centre pipe hit the road on a massive pothole and it dented the pipe but didn't have this sort of result.

No.  Don't think so.  it was a great day to ride and I just went to the same shop that I usually deal with.  The local Guzzi shop.  I was setting up a time to get the maintenance minder reset on the dashboard on the Duc.  Then I was heading out to ride around the local lake and see if any riders were hanging out.  I think there was a rock or broken pavement in the pot hole.  Perhaps I thought it wasn't a pot hole but it was a rock? I dunno.  Just a small bump and the bike began to roar.

I was shocked to see the damage.  Our roads here are awful.  You get a feel on when to dodge a hole or drive through it.  There was no hard jolt.  No big deal, then RRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Believe me, since everything is attached to the engine, it's crossed my mind that I might have broken something to total the bike.  I hope not but I have $1000 deductible on it.

Not implying bike wasn't set up correct for your weight, though I wonder if a severely  backed-off pre-load may had contributed (or broke linkage)?

I tend to agree that it was previously damaged and the pothole just jarred it loose. A co worker hit a pothole here in Atlanta in a company truck that had been previously repaired. The pothole knocked the bumper halfway off the truck!

It sounded cool for about the first 3 minutes.  After that, not so much.  Even with ear plugs and helmet.  And to be honest, the high revving little 937 engine just doesn't have the "kick you in the gut" like my V11 Sport with Mistrals.   I much prefer my Duc with the stock exhaust IN TACT, it spits and rumbles but at much better level with the muffler.

I just learned that the tupperware was also broken the attachment.  That's a $500+ piece of plastic.  I'll take it to my body guy and see what he says.  He did a good job on all the fragile green plastic on the Sport.

I didn't hit anything prior to that to indicate that there could be earlier damage.  I usually do a once over on the bike every time I ride.  I put it on the rear stand and check the chain and clean the bottom parts and wheels.  I recently polished the smashed muffler cover and have taken it apart to clean the flapper valve.  So I don't believe for a second that there was previous damage.

Funny thing.  I was ordering the brackets and sundries from the local dealer.  As soon as I said what had happened, the guy on the phone said, "I know exactly the pothole you're talking about.  They fill it up all the time." 

Having said all that.  I am just amazed the bike just glided over it when I see the damage.

Contacted them.  Appreciably all parts are shipped from Italy.  It takes a week to get them here.  At least that's what Omaha and my local shop told me.  So I've ordered a $125 worth of fasteners and it should be here next week.  I hope to get the fairing repaired by my body guy that's done some plastic repair on my Sport.

I got his in the mail today.  It's a $1500 Ducati muffler.  Luckily, many riders toss them and put on aftermarket pipes and reflash, so for $1500 those guys get another 4HP. 

So from Ebay, $72 w/shipping ($40) and tax.  <Guzzi Content>

Good deal. It does make you wonder how stupid people actually are. The OEM muffler is worth about nothing so why sell it after upgrading to a sports system. I never sell the standard exhaust, so if I ever need to sell the bike unless the buyer wants to do me a deal on the aftermarket system it gets sold separately. I'm not going to give away a $3500 full titanium exhaust for instance just so I can get maybe $120 for the original system.

Unfortunately the front header pipe is cracked.  Couldn't be welded.  Ordering another take off piece from Ebay.  Another $140 from the Denver Aprilia shop.
