I did a 20 mile loop this evening around the backroads of my area. Humidity was lower and 78 deg. I took the ole 38 year old Honda CB1000C as she needed to be ridden because the latest addition Stone has been getting all of my attention. The girls get a little jealous if I don’t ride both of them😂

Yes it has the 10 speed transmission. Actually it had a hi and low range gear, thats technically speaking a 10 speed. I was lucky to find her it’s a one owner, garage kept and had 4K miles and almost mint condition.

Sounds like a nice one.

Do you actually ride through all 10 speeds, or just use the highest gear ratio as an “ overdrive”?

Just used the hi/ lo as an overdrive. However when riding in the mountain curvy roads and in town the low side works great. In 1981 at the WSPD we used the CB900c for police motor bikes dressed in Vetter equipment ( in 83 Honda bumped them up to 1000cc). We had 14 of the 81 and 82s. We kept them for 9 years and put hundreds of thousands of miles on them collectively with no major issues, period.

Yes...Tombstone...B isbee...Jerome...Fl agstaff...Prescott. ..Sedona...Oak Creek Canyon...Tucson...P atagonia...Sonoita. ..Douglas...the Grand Canyon...the Colorado River...Lake Mead...the list goes on and on...There are a lot of great riding destinations in the state of Arizona...

Just have to pick the right season to RIDE...and that's NOT during the height of summer!! (aka - "The Forbidden Planet season")

Yeah, the road through Jerome is quite good as the town of Jerome is an awesome place. My parents went through there in the 50's and it was pretty much a ghost town but now it has a lot of shops and restaurants precariously hanging on the hillside. I went up 89 ( which has the most tar snakes I have ever seen) to Ash Fork then went west to Seligman which is 16-17 mile stretch of 66 then went back through Williams and stayed in Flagstaff. I like to stay in a motel that is close to the center of a town so I can just walk around instead of suiting up. Plus you really get a feel for the town in a more personal way. I left Flagstaff to go on a day trip to Monument Valley which was awesome as I have seen all the John Ford movies in which he made the place famous. Nasty wind on the way back to Flagstaff. About 400 miles round trip to Monument Valley. The bike (Kawasaki Drifter 1500) didn't miss a beat. Back to Flagstaff and next day down 89A which they were resurfacing so much of it was dirt and rubble. A matter of fact as I was stopped for a flagman, I looked down at the pavement and it looked like the original pavement when the road was first paved-maybe the 30's? Down through the turns in the Oak Creek canyon (which weren't torn up) which is absolutely beautiful! The red and blond cliffs with the greenery is spectacular not to mention the wonderful cabins in the canyon and a nice stream. Then down through Sedona which is quite a nice town and back to Chino Valley to stay with a friend. Then back through Prescott which is a nice little town set in the pine trees, then down the hill back to Nevada and California. It was a great trip as the one I did to Bisbee and Tombstone was also. Man, am I itchy do go on a long ride...

The great thing about the west is the wide open expanses. You can see for miles. Williams is a nice old town as 66 is the main street. As I recall, when I went through there the temperature was great as I wasn't going to traverse AZ in the summertime. Wintertime for the southern part and fall/spring for the northern part as there can be snow in Flagstaff as it is nearly 7,000ft. All in all a great place for motorcycling!

Here's one that brings back so many good memories! The year was 2006. My riding buddy, Tom, and I both owned Bonnevilles. Tom's had to be one of the first new gen Bonnevilles in the USA, since he ordered it before the US dealers had any floor stock. I liked his bike so much I was about to buy a new 2006 Bonnie (Popsicle - Orange and Ivory) when I came across a low mileage 2003 Centennial Edition in Lucifer Orange and Silver. Fell in love at first sight!

Come the spring of 2006, we decided to take the two Bonnies out West, instead of larger bikes, which we both owned. We mapped our trip to include as little Interstate as possible. These 790cc bikes were perfect for the trip. We'd both installed better shocks and fork springs, but aside from that, and some luggage mounts, these bikes were stock. Neither skipped a beat for over 4000 mile round trip.

Here we were, 5 or 6 days into our trip, in Monument Valley, headed north to Moab, then to Cody, then back toward home (Cleveland Ohio)

Never forget this ride!

That's a cool looking Honda!

I had that same frame mounted, Vetter fairing with those triangular hard bags on a 1975 BMW R75/6 750cc airhead. They worked well, but made the front end a bit...."heavy!"

- - but worked well in the rain!

Ohiorider, sounds like a fantastic trip. I went last year to Cody-only I drove there- to see Wyoming and especially the Cody Firearms museum which had been just newly renovated. I also wanted to see if they had any of Bill Cody's clothes as he was a snappy dresser especially for his shows. Tried to get through Yellowstone to go to Jackson but Yellowstone was snowing and the south entrance was closed so, I went the other way round. Incidentally, Cody has the best tap water I have ever tasted. All in all, a great trip...

Ohio, that is fantastic! The guy that owned the Panhead was a super nice guy that talked to me a while as I have a soft spot for Panheads especially a '59 Duo-Glide. He rides the bike all the time-except in winter- and says the bike runs great. He looked like a guy that has wrenched a long time. He had something to do with a Harley clothing shop across from the Cody Hotel that I was staying in but, I never talked to him about his connection to the shop. Might have been the owner. One word of mention, is if you go to Medicine Bow, make sure you have plenty of gas to get to Casper. There is no gas there at least as it was 1 year ago. If I had been on the Drifter I would be sweating bullets...
