Suggestions ? Small-ish leather bag for rear rack PICS
« on: September 02, 2020, 11:31:01 AM »
I am trying to find a leather bag for the rear rack, to compliment a small set of leather saddlebags.  There in no sissybar on this bike, only a five inch bar in the front.

Wanting bag dimensions (approx)  Less than or equal to 16" long and maybe 10" wide and up to 12" tall.

Leather or GOOD vinyl.

It's just gonna sit on the rear rack and I will probably install a thin plywood floor and mount it to the rear rack with zip ties.  See photo.

What do you have ?

Thanks,

Kevin

I found this little leather bag on Amazon.  Just to hold some tools, extra spark plugs, etc.  Held on the rear rack by double black zip ties... :thumb:

Thanks.  I went there. And Amazon.  And a few others.  I'm finding some nice bags but they are larger than what I'm wanting.

Being a total cheapo most of the I just used one of my old tank bags. Just zip tied it to the rack. Carries what I need for my usual local area rides. I dont have any plans on long road rides. If we do have any rallies next year and we go I will just trailer the bike. My wife still loves to make the rallies with me but due to health issues dosent ride any more.

I know !  My Wife said that I should get a nice leather bag to match the saddlebags.  There's already a nice bag on the rack.  Very functional.

I put this on my Roamer.  It's nicely made, and can be found for $60, but it's not leather, although the hold down straps are.
Works great, holds a 8 pack, and its very adjustable.

By the way, for long, overnight road trips, I have used a CORTECH, expandable "Tail Bag" for years.   :thumb:   Very versatile!

I've gotten several things from Fox Creek Leather and have been very satisfied. Made in the USA.

I have an OEM for the V7 rack - came with the Special when I bought it. Definitely smallish - 11"W X 10"L X 7"H. It's Italian, so it's neat & tidy, if not all that useful. Likely to be unreasonably pricy new, if available at all now. Have seen them discounted. I can post a photo once it's daylight, if interested.

At times, I'll use a Kriega US20 - fits a bit more, & it's waterproof,  but takes longer to mount, and to access the stuff inside.

I have a Willie & Max bag that matches your dimensions.  Genuine Naugahide with a plastic liner so the bag keeps it shape.  Not waterproof, but close enough.

Large enough for some tools, raingear, and misc. stuff.

Thanks, Tom.   :thumb:

I scrubbed that leather bag with liquid Tide and then a bit of bleach - and later a good saturation of white vinegar.
Scrounging around the basement produced an old bottle of black leather dye.  It's amazing what's lurking in some of those cupboards.

A neighbor gave me a tin of ancient Genuine Harley Davidson leather saddlebag dressing.  And then. a bit of Kiwi black, and a boot brush.  Added a plywood base inside, and drilled and attached with zip ties.  It's a solid mount.

Thanks again for the great leather bag.
