Sidecar fun!

Got to play with this last week. Recently purchased by a friend. Supposed to have been set up by Blue Moon Cycle in GA. It has the extended Telelever front end part that changes trail for sidecar use. Initial ride the rig pulled hard to the right. Bike was leaning the wrong way, and the rig had toe-out instead of toe-in. An hour and a half of playing around with the mounts, got the correct lean out and toe-in. Nice driving rig! Plenty o' power to haul the chair.

Always liked sidecars...and that's a nice rig...but you are right...they have to be set up, ("aligned"), properly, or they can be dangerous....

That's a beauty! And I would expect the R1200C to be particularly good as a tug, since the engine was detuned to 60 hp (rather than 90 plus on the touring bikes for the 1100/1150 oilhead engines) and thus likely makes more torque down low.

Good you were able to align it properly.

I'll second the setup comment.  The mount kit is very difficult to adjust on this old Watsonian so it seems to go on different every time.  After wrestling with it for a couple hours I pretty much run it how it goes on.  I got some pretty extreme lean out this time (bike away from car) and the end result is a car that is very easy to fly, and very controllable.  I don't do it with Cal in there, he's got some pretty big teeth.  The wife is fair game and gets a kick out of it.  And she doesn't bite.

Yup, you adjust one mount, it changes things in three axis'. I still have an installation manual for a Velorex 562 that I had on a '69 Bonneville. The basic measurements and parameters in the manual work for most any sidecar rig.
My first Guzzi was a Convert with a California sidecar. My dog loved it when I would fly the chair.

That's a great setup.
I've just been sidecaring 1 1/2 years now & I enjoy it, especially when the grandkids are around.
Mine is an '02 Cali. EV1100 with Velorex 565. Not a 'touring" rig, but lot's of fun around town & I don't tour anyway.
Mine was well setup by the previous owner, however like most of us I will tinker with it from time to time.
