What size Allen wrench v9 front axel?
« on: October 23, 2020, 04:43:25 PM »
For some reason the v9 has an axel that requires a hex head tool to extract.  I don't have one large enough, can someone tell me what size I need?

If you don't get an answer shortly. IF you have the tool kit it may have come with, there is one in there. Just measure it.

If you have a small selection of metric bolts , see which fits and the size of wrench that fits the bolt head is your answer . Peter

Tool kit does not come with one!  Crazy!

The metric bolt idea is clever, but still hope someone can save me the headache, not sure I have the right bolt.

V7s don’t come with it either, but I do know the V7 takes a 14 hex. Maybe the V9 is similar? Different part numbers unfortunately.

My EVT uses a 14mm. Now you have 2 bikes with 14mm.

Did a tool kit come with the bike? My EVT has one, there is a piece of hex bar that I always wondered what it was for. Latter found it was for the axle. I think there is a 14mm wrench to use with it.

The bike should have come with a short length of 14mm hex in the toolkit, mine did.
Use it with a 14mm wrench.

What model bike do you have? I’ve seen that pre-early V7 owners got the hex bit in their tool kit, but my V7 II didn’t, and I’d be surprised (and a tad miffed) if any other V7 II, III, or V9 kit came with it.

My V9 Bobbler did not have a hex bit in the kit. So happens that I had a 1/2 x 14mm socket bit in my tool chest. About seven bucks or so on Amazon or at your local hardware store.

The Nevada kit had the hex bit, the V7 II and Roamer do not.  The bolt head moto-uno mentioned makes a handy substitute, butt a couple of nuts together on the bolt and use a wrench on the inside nut to go lefty loosey, the outside nut to go righty tighty.

I bought a Bondhaus long 14mm allen wrench for about $7 and chopped off an inch or so to carry in my tool kit and I still have a usable allen wrench.
Alternatively use a 14mm bolt with a big pair of vice grips on the threads or a couple of nuts locked together on the threaded part of the bolt.

Thanks all.  Breva 11 kit has some hex tools, but none are 14mm.   Ordered one for $7.

V9 is a 14mm also.

You can use a torx bit on an Allen head if that’s easier to find or you already have a set.
I believe a T60 is the size for a 14mm

I have a 2017 V7 III Special

Whelp. Guess that’s the price difference between Stones and Specials.

That might be possible, but that HAS to chew on the Allen socket a bit if you have to put any torque on it ... ?  Any port in a storm, but that doesn't sound like a good thing to do if you don't have to get home.
