The Carrillo kit itself is €849.14 before tax.  Pistons are $639 USD for two.

Yep so you're up to $1630usd for parts plus shipping and you yourself are going to press the crank apart fit the dummy pin balance it and press it back together again in a 30 ton press and align it yourself? Have you experience in this? So in effect your new big end isn't really 849 euros because its the one thing you will need to get done professionally.
Even if you do it yourself and we call the pistons and big end kit $1700usd or so, plus shipping, you haven't even started on the rest of the engine. last time I bought a set of RHP angular contact mains they were $350au a matched pair, 30 years ago.
If you sleep better at night thinking you can rebuild your Bevel engine for $2500 in parts in 2020 and beyond fine, but I can tell you now you cant, not even close to an as new standard engine.

Ciao

Yes, I did that crankshaft disassembly/reasssembly/alignment myself on my Darmah engine overhaul.  It had to be done twice to rebalance the crankshaft for different rods and pistons.  Alignment is done with V-blocks and is actually not all that difficult.

$2500 is a fair number for parts assuming its an overhaul, not replacing every wearing part.

Well if you can rebuild a bevel engine for that money in parts you have a lucrative business opportunity you should take advantage of. Even with your labour costs added you'll be on a winner.

If I did one engine per week my direct labor cost per engine before overhead and benefits would be close to double the parts cost.  I'm not sure I'm the guy anybody would want to do this job

$24K or maybe a little less is where a knowledgeable seller would set reserve on an immaculate 750GT.  BaT does not seem to attract buyers at that level but it’s interesting that they keep trying and presumably accepting reasonable seller reserves, as one nice bevel Ducati after another fails to sell on BaT. After a while you’d think sellers would give up on the site - it just hasn’t attracted buyers for these bikes unless they’re a bit rough and sold at the price for a rough one.

I think that’s three bevel Ducatis in a row that didn’t meet reserve on BaT.  This one bid to market value IMO and the seller should have sold it for that bid, the others not so much.

 Sold at Mecum for $28,700 - LOT T327 - 2019

https://www.mecum.com/auctions/las-vegas-motorcycle-2019/lots/motorcycles/01/24/page/11/

I saw that bike in person, it looked very nice but no idea on the running condition.

Prices seem to be down a bit so I think it should have sold for the high bid received on BAT

The US$46000 750GT looks to have stock OEM valve seats.
My personal experience of that is not so great on unleaded fuel but being a European bike, maybe their fuel is fine for doing actual mileage.

Perhaps beryllium copper? Similar appearance to old style bronze alloy ones. Beryllium copper was used for the exh. seat replacements in my GT. Intakes were high nickel content bronze (Guy Martin, Montreal).

Beryllium copper:

I rebuilt a 750GT about ten years ago and had about $5k into the engine alone. Completely rebuilt, Syd's did the crank and fit the new (Sport) pistons but I did pretty much everything else.

I bought the bike right before prices on them skyrocketed. Got lucky on that one. I sold the bike when I realized I spent more time thinking about what I could do with the money if I sold it than I how much fun it was to ride. I never intended to restore it, I had plans to make it a "rider" the entire time. They weren't such a big deal when I was rebuilding it...

My brother has one that has been in restoration for about 4 years now.  They guy working on it fired it up about a month in but sourcing the cosmetic stuff has been a pain.  I think my brother is going to go get it and finish it as he can.  Eventually I will abscond with it so I want him to do it right!

He also has two wide frame singles that would be great projects.  I don't have the time or energy but if someone knows a good restorer I have the key to his shop.  It would be a 350 desmo build.
