Rain rain rain
« on: November 12, 2020, 08:38:09 AM »
One should not complain about what nature decides to do, so I’m not complaining, just making note for the record.
In the past 3 months 5 hurricanes have marched through the middle of NC. In the past 24 hours some surrounding counties have gotten over 9” of rain and flooding is rampant. I’m thankful however, at least my houses have not been washed away like a lot of folks along the Gulf where all of these storms has hit first. I guess it’s also good that all this water was not in the form or snow like you guys up north get with a bad winter:(

8" here, driveway washed out, and wouldn't you know it, my new tractor is in the shop.  (A week and a half and $720 to get a bumblebee out of the diesel tank outlet).

With timber prices being what they are (high), most of the forest land in the county has been logged in the last couple years, and the water is running right off of the clearcuts.   My river is as high as it's ever been, Hurricane Fran and all.

The water table will be high for a long time now, though, so no problems with wells or springs going dry for a year or two, so there's that ...

I have only got water in my basement 3 times in 20 years yesterday was the 4th. It wasn’t very bad I just had to move some stuff and squeegee out the water. I think the French drain just couldn’t handle the 10” of rain in 24 hour period.

La Ninja does that kind of stuff when she is in country,  Here in the mid wet we just get milder winters.

Thanks Earl. This is the 5th one this season and all 5 did the same thing, came out of the gulf then right through the middle of NC. I had dirt wash out where I was trying to get a stand of grass at the river house five times now. Piss on it I’ll just put rocks down now till spring. I’m not going to complain  too much as the poor folks in the costal gulf area has been devastated five times now, they are the ones who need the prayers and sympathy, my issues are just inconveniences compared to their losses.
