VHB 29 - Single or Double Banjo
« on: December 13, 2020, 09:26:11 PM »
73 Ambo 850. The current fuel line set up uses an “X” and single banjo’s on the VHS 29 carbs. Bike runs (ran) fine.

My 75’ 850T has VHS 30’s. When I rebuilt the T it had no “X”. It uses twin banjos on each carb with a line running from one carb to the next. More of a loop I would say. This bike runs fine also.

My question, is one setup better then the other. I have duel banjos that I can change too on the Ambo if I am convinced that one setup is better then the other.

Thanks,

Other than one being a bit more simple than the other, there is no real difference. Use whichever "tickles your fancy".

Not sure about Loopies but on Tonties the double banjo is easier to look after since the crossover line can be routed round the airbox.  The Old X crossover was prone to leaks and awkward to fit.

of course you can just run each tap to each carb, but it makes going onto reserve a bit of a pain.  doesnt stall or anything, but you need to do both taps.

A duel banjo on your left carb will let you go to reserve on both carbs w your left hand...don’t have to let go the throttle while you’re trying to keep it running

That video is amazing!   :cheesy:

I will get rid of the “X”. It is a pain to work with and I can see it as a possible source of trouble down the road.

Thanks again for the advice,

That picture makes me sick to my stomach.

I got everything back together from getting those bolts out of the generator mount to getting rid of the X in the fuel line. Cleaned so much crud and tidied up wires and connections and such. It started back up like a champ. But I either didn’t tighten the oil feed line or I should have replaced the crush washers.

Looks like oil running down from about where the pressure switch is. Might check that.

Blow that up and make it a wall art piece.
