Im really waiting to see it in person. Not too keen on the Special's blue in the pictures, but you know IRL is not the same as pictures. I really hope they also added a little extra size to the frame.. Lots of talk of engine and suspension, but nothing about the overall size of the bike. A little more power, a little bigger size, and maybe a nicer color on the special, and I might just be looking at the first new bike ive ever wanted to buy.

That's for places with tiered licensing. The new power output is too high for new riders in tiered systems. This allows them to still sell to that market and presumably de-restrict it electronically after they've graduated to the next tier.

Bingo Kev m, what works in one Country  [or State ]might not in another and to make the Most out of 'one' Productionline " They ' Guzzi and others as well have to split things up .

If I followed that, I would still own every new bike I ever bought.  LOL!  Sometimes you just have to get what you can out of it and move on.  I guess, unless you have a 40 year plan wherein the price index makes it to where you can get your money back (in 40 year old dollars).   

Every used bike I bought was bought at a bargain so they were not to bad to part with. 

My buddy moved from the twisties to Northwest Ohio and should have sold his ZX10R before moving.  He waited and ended up with pennies on the dollar for a low mileage bike that he barely rode since there are zero fun roads where he lives.

Most of the people that point out the deficiencies in the V85 donk, reckon it’s a bit too weak low down..(I don’t), but I still maintain that the ‘85 would be a better bike within it’s design brief, if it ran the V9 engine.

Change the name of the new one to the V8 and offer the V85 with the V8 motor.

The tire only had a small puncture.  It was a curved length of metal about 6 inches long.  Put a patch on the inside of the tire, a new tube and back on the road.

Oh, and nothing slows down a blowout.  That's why the call it a blowout.   

Slime is not rated for highway speeds either, or at least that's what their liability lawyers say.  The Ride-on product is rated for highway speeds and will keep a puncture from deflating, and maybe slow down a puncture in a tube tire.

Must not be that bad.  If owning a tubed tire motorcycle was that bad, you would have gotten rid of them.     It must be something you've accepted.

So many assumptions being made here.

They are clearly both 850's according to the wording of the release and the website.

There's no reason to assume they were detuned because of EU-V. Maybe they were and we'll see that on the V85 too but I'm thinking it was simply to differentiate between models and price points.

The A2 "version" is programming and can be unlocked later.

I just asked Jenn if she minded if we had 3 V7s.

I would think the 'de-tuning' likely moves the power and torque lower in the rev band to better suit the V7 platform.

Yamaha did that with the R-1 and FZ-1 back a few years ago, giving up the high rpm power and even increased torque for better mid range power and torque making it more applicable for sport/touring riding. The FZ-1 was a MUCH nicer bike to ride, leaving the R-1 for track use or racer wannabe's. The did the same with the R-6 and FZ-6, as did Kawasaki with both versions of the Concours. This could be a good thing for the motor, and obviously for the V-7. I look forward to riding one, though I likely won't be buying. I could be convinced on a V85 based Lemans or other Sport Standard with some touring cred that isn't ADV styled.

I 'think' (rare and scary thing) that the V85 was EU-5 compliant out of the box, but that may have been EU-4.

I really hope the suspension is better and that the motor is more like the V9 though. Also that it is bigger than the V7 but has watched it’s weight all round.

I’d find it hard to believe that the naming affects the sales of these MG bikes at all, boldly venturing out to guess that as far as lackluster numbers on the V9, it’s based off the polarizing looks alone. Call the new “V7” a V85, V9, or late for dinner, and folks will still buy it. The looks are ubiquitously appreciated.

That said, I’m curious if any of the more expensive parts inside the V85 were jettisoned for cost (titanium pushrods, or is it something else?). They’re swapping the valve cover from the V9/V7 lineup. What other mish-mashing are they doing?

The spoked wheels are easy to seal, I just used Sikaflex on my V7iii, I'm sure the factory could come up with an even better inexpensive air seal.
I wish they would finish off the side-covers though, looks awful with wires hanging out.
As to the 100th anniversary sticker, I see no reason why we couldn't have those for our older bikes, someone should make a nice cast one.

What kind of heads does the 850 engine have ? 

I don't follow all things V7,  but I recall a previous forum member from Australia being upset they used "Heron" heads.  Did that get changed on the 850 ?

Just wondering.

IIFC starting with the V7III all heads are hemi style heads.  Heron head is finished now.

Ah yes, the last of the Heron head (V7 and V7II)!  Snap them up for small money before everyone catches on and the prices go stratospheric!
