I've run the Stelvio Hand guards on several bikes. Easy bolt on solution for any of the CARC bikes, and even on the V7 with a small adapter plate for the mirror mount. They fit on the Norge, but did interact with the Large Guzzi windscreen at full turns.

They do an outstanding job of pushing air off the hands, and when paired with grip heaters and a decent pair of gloves work very well, even in sub freezing temps. I also have heated gloves and when used, my hands are never cold even in the worst conditions. I leave the guards on the V7 year round, and are easy on/off for the Griso and 1200 Sport for cold weather riding if I want.  The kit is about $125 from AF1 and includes the hand guards, bar end weights, mounting bushing and bolts.

I bought myself a set of hippo hands or a generic equivalent only to realize that they don't work with bar-end mirrors. At that point switched to a glass of bourbon by a warm fire to keep my hands warm. :)

I searched eBay and found a Vetter xmas ad...1/2 way down on the left is a tiny photo of the original Hippo Hands...none for sale

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Vetter-Motorcycle-Apparel-Brochure-T-Shirts-Hippo-Hands-Totes-L2228-/311548492625

They really were the right stuff at the time...oversized so easy to slip your hands in and out..thick sheepskin fuzzy inside...bigger than anyone makes today...no need for thick gloves or heated grips...after a day or two you got used to not seeing your hands

Back in the late 70's I used to ride to work on my 77 Yamaha 650 and commute till it snowed. To warm my hands I would garb the header pipe, ruined a nice pair of deer skin gloves.

I have used these for the past few years and they are very nice:

https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/barkbusters-blizzard-universal-handguards?sku_id=970681

They have stiffeners in them to keep them from collapsing on the levers, they are open towards the rider and together with heated grips make for comfortable winter temp riding.  They screw into some bar end plugs and have a velcro strap for the inboard connection to the handlebars.  They are easily moved from bike to bike and work well.

Factory Stelvio hand wind deflectors, heated grips, and KLIM snowmobile gloves, and my hands still get cold below 40 degF.

I suspect there's nothing to be done for me; just getting old and the circulation slowing down despite my best efforts in the other direction!

Lannis

I did the same as Lannis on my Norge.   The stelvio handguards fit great and help tremendously.

I picked up these inexpensive guards on Amazon and they work quite well. Sprayed the inside black so they match my Dart screen. Time will tell if they hold up but so far so good...

No.  Muscle memory knows where they are.  Picture them in your mind.  Just like typing on the keyboard.

I did have one bike that put the radio controller where the horn button is supposed to be, so whenever I rode that bike in traffic I had to place my thumb on the button in case I needed it.

Well heck, I'm out.  I have to look at the keyboard.

Heated grips definitely help.  Probably why they are often found on snowblowers.

I bought a set of heated grips for my ATV.  They work great.  Deciding factor was the review by the lady who bought some for her husband.  He installed them and all his riding buddies called him a wimp.  Their weekend ride was cold and rainy.  The next time they got together, all his riding buddies had heated grips on their ATVs.

the modern version of Hippo Hands make a lot of sense.

"Do you sew?"  Not nearly as well as I type.

While we are discussing cold weather riding, I would like to hear about winter gloves that work well without being too bulky, and that have long enough gauntlets so that the cold air doesn't creep in and bite my wrists.  It sounds like coast range rider is happy with the BMW gloves, anybody else have gloves they'd recommend?

Edit to add that I have grips heaters, that's the first mod I make to any bike.

In WW2 in The cold Russian winter BMWs were equipt with hand cups and toe cups that were heated by flexible exhaust lines.
Butterfly valves controlled the amount of exhaust gasses that were directed to these devices.  Directions warned that when starting
cold engines the hand cups be closed off until the engine reached operating temps. This was because of flames from the exhaust
would occasionally come through them.  Riders were better able to ride in the subzero climate with these devices.  Possibly
the best cold weather devices ever for the riders.

coast range rider, would you consider the sizing chart fairly accurate:

https://motodomains.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/BMW-glove-sizing-chart.jpg

There's a nice pair of the gloves on FB marketplace for $50, size XL:

Now if anybody finds a pair of these in small, let me know straightaway.

:bike-037:Sarah, the main thing to look for in winter gloves is loft.  Just like sleeping bags and puffy jackets, it is the loft that insulates.  Of course that is why mitts are better than gloves because it is hard to create good loft in fingers.

I have a pair of tourmaster Polar tex gloves that do a good job.  I see they are up to the 3rd generation.

https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/tour-master-polar-tex-30-gloves?gclid=Cj0KCQiAuJb_BRDJARIsAKkycUmwU4vH8ufnIo2gb8Zsmwp_LD8rSLOvtqgSL8VLGdpNSMZ0_Tx9ntgaAiAREALw_wcB

When paired with heated grips I keep the heat on low.

Revzilla says these have even more insulation on the back of the hand.  Looks like they both come in women's sizing as well.

I dug my $20.00 TUSK hand warmers out of the dirt bike gear bag and rode to Bennett Spring today. I think they'll work fine  :thumb:

Electric vest was surprisingly helpful in keeping my hands warm. The theory is that the heated vest keeps your core temperature up resulting in more blood flow to the extremities resulting in warmer hands and feet.
