Started riding in 1972. I’m 70 now with no intentions of growing up. Currently riding a V9 Roamer and loving it.

No Guzzi in the garage at the moment.  I'm down to two bikes which I really enjoy riding:
- 1991 R100GS "bumble bee" that I've owned since new.  Now at over 160,000 miles.
- 2016 Bonneville T120 I bought barely used Nov of 2019 with 1600 miles showing.  Now at approx 7500.  Sweet bike.
I'd probably like a smallblock if it felt (to me) more like a big block.  I suspect a small block is an acquired taste.  I hated my GS for the first couple of thousand miles, but over time it grew on me (obviously!)

Happy New Year to all!!

Often, when I read a comment that I question on WG, I wonder if the poster is 35, 55, or 75+.  Typically, if I look at their profile, they don't list their age.  Is this because they think it might make them more susceptible to being scammed, or make it easier for them to be found on social media?

I only ask because sometimes a response from a WG member makes me wonder their age ....... in other words, what in their age group  might guide their response.

Some WG members post their age in their profile, most don't.

Just curious.

BTW - 78 end of January, 2021.

I'm surprised by your question.

People fear the stereotypes age brings either old or young, human nature me thinks.

Some us don't really care, some do.

Anyone over the age of 50 who is applying for a job or to start a new career will find out real quick that it's NOT a good idea to put your age, or the year you graduated college, or whatever on your resume.

Age discrimination is everywhere, and although illegal, it's almost impossible to prove that it's being engaged in, especially if you haven't been hired yet ... !

In this case its about posting your age on a social? media site where age is really irrelevant other than invoking a  stereotype, as those with spots and those past their prime.

In my mind its about perception not qualification. To some folks posting age and location on a public forum would be considered an invasion of their privacy.

Had my New Year and I'm still sober! Must be the non alcoholic wine.

Don't encourage me, Steve!  I could see selling the Bonneville T120, and searching for a nice rollered Griso ...... then doing what it would take to smooth out the suspension so the bike and I could cope with Ohio's frost heaved secondary roads.  Because that's where I like to ride.

I will always remember my ride back home to NE Ohio from Dahlonega GA in 2012.  Much of it was on Interstate, and I found the Griso to be a really fine machine.  It was only when I got home and began riding my favorite roads that the suspension began killing me.

I found (aside from suspension) the Griso was one hell of an impressive machine.  Since they're no longer made, it might be the time to locate one.  I think they'll be a classic in the next few years (IMHO)

The calendar says I am 65. Some mornings I feel physically older. Most of the time my brain says I am 29. Happy enough to still be around to post this. Just wish time would slow down to the pace I remember in 7th grade math class.

One of my grandfathers lived to be 102. He drove until he was 101 and a half. He was amazing. WW1 vet.
He visited us when we lived on the north shore of Oahu when he was in his 70's and he swam so far out into the ocean he looked like he was headed for the Aleutians. My dad was on the roof of the house watching him with binoculars. Grandpa was out there for about an hour.
When he was in his late 80's I watched him set roof trusses while balancing on top of a 12' high wall slightly less than 6" wide.
I have  never met anyone with his vitality at his ages. I certainly don't have it.
Age is more than a number.

I landed my current IT Director job by featuring my newest MS degree in 2017 and cutting about 20 years of work history and other dating information from my resume. Fortunately I don't look or act 64 either. Had I been fully transparent I suspect I would not have been hired.

Bob, you are an inspiration, as are many of you guys still getting after it in ehem, later years.

I can only hope and pray I'm riding the 1200 Sport when I am 67 (when you bought the bike). Replacement parts aside, I have so many injuries creeping up on my 57 year old frame we will see. Planning a hack for one of my bikes in the future.

Planning two big rides post retirement (3 years at 60), one to see a MLB game in every stadium on the Convert or 1200 S, and then dream is an Alaska to Brazil ride with one of my buddies, maybe on the Stornello.

Steve, I just got off the phone with my buddy, Tom.  You met him here when you took delivery of the 1200 Sport.  We were talking about the Sport, and the good times on our 2011 ride to Montana and back.  I think she'll be good to you, too!  A bit more gentle on the knees and wrists than my Griso was.

I'm going to chase every opportunity to get the C-19 - as soon as I can.  I'm having grandiose thoughts about 'one more ride' out West, on either the R100GS (once I drop the suspension 3/4" or so, or on the T120.  I was plotting out some Google Maps using my directions from a 2005 trip.  Don't think a future first day ride would be from here to Hannibal Missouri, though!

Good hearing from you.  Happy New Year!

67. Mom made it to 102 so I figure I'll be around for some time. Still working full time, have a job I can stay at until I feel like leaving. Planning to go at 70, maybe. Consulting part time is an option, too. An old building code guy like me can write my own ticket in the private sector. Still strong, no plans to stop riding anytime soon.

Going on 73. Still own and enjoy my 98 EV. But my riding in the last 3 years has dropped from about 15,000 miles  per year to about 5000. I still feel confident on the EV, but I had to lower my FJR and my 1200 Bandit in order to keep riding them. But that simple mod really improved  my confidence on those two bikes. Unfortunately my desire to go camp on a bike has all but vanished. Just too damn painful. But I sure enjoyed it for the last 23 years. Since turning 50 I've enjoyed about 330,000 miles touring and camping. I'll keep riding but with more moderate expectations.

Luap could probably tell us....it seems like I posted a poll on here a few years back and the response was an average age of 59.  I'll see if I can find it.
