Acetone may be okay on the Cape but here on the Mainland we prefer Naptha for degreasing. Acetone eats plastic, Naptha won't.

....only if you use WATERPROOF heat shrink tubing. It has an adhesive liner that melts and seals to the the wire insulation to firm a seal as it is shrunk.

Regular heat shrink tubing does not form a waterproof barrier.

That is good stuff. Sometimes I will put a thin layer of hot melt glue on a connection, then put regular heat shrink tubing over top of that, if I don't have the pre-made glue and heat shrink.

Vaseline for battery terminals prevents Lead Oxide mind you I've only been doing that for about 60 years. Vaseline is also good to lubricate sliding contacts.
In wet areas dip wires in something greasy before crimping to exclude Oxygen a dry joint will start to corrode within weeks, the grease keeps the copper bright.

FWIW, DeOxit worked great on my 40 year old Pioneer 1010 that developed scratchy potentiometers... no more scratchiness.

I can't begin to tell you how many things I've "fixed" with DeOxit..  The Kid fixed a $5000 relay in a helicopter one time..

I have two versions of DeOxit on the bench.  There is a "5" version which I think contains 5% of the very strong anti-corrosive chemicals.  Easy and cheap enough to spray on everything.  Then there is the "100" version which is 100% and thus VERY expensive.  I've used that to dissolve away all corrosion and salt from a badly leaking battery situation.  Worth every penny for saving important battery supply devices which may have been damaged.  Maybe Wayne can chime in with more knowledge about the various mixtures and what would be best for a single, general-purpose bench spray.
