PAINTING VALVE COVERS RED
«
on:
February 20, 2021, 12:16:26 PM »
The 8mm NGK racing plug wires look so cool (or hot) on my Quota 1100ES, I'm toying with the idea of painting the stock valve covers red.
Any suggestions or successes with preparation, primer, paint, process or colors? I'd guess a baked enamel would be far more preferable than a rattle can project.

I don't get the Violin emoji...
Usually red painted valve covers end up looking like crap. I've seen a handful that look okay, and those were done with a wrinkle finish with baking. What color is your quota? ( hopefully not red )

I have thought of painting the Stone valve covers, but what color. ? ? ?
I have 3 sohc 750 Hondas, years ago I painted the valve covers, one Ford blue, one Mopar orange,
and one a Chevy red.

I would think that brake caliper paint would work - comes in many colors.

I am reluctant to spoil this party but a dim recollection tells me that engine oil will have contaminated the outside surface, of the covers. The alloy is porous enough to allow engine oil to travel to the outer surface. Now that I am "warmed up", a powder coater here in Oz told me as much but the subject has been discussed on the forum.

I did the ones on my white Bassa in rattle can wrinkle black and I love it. No problems with the base material either.

That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

My Quota is gold with blue stripe, tugging a gloss black Ural sidecar.

Nice, the rare color combo. Red valve covers with red bike would be a no go as you could never match the reds.

Love the blue, hate the red valve covers and accents, the pipe wrap and box muffler.

I'd paint them with clear!
It would be really, really, cool to be able to look down when the bike is idling see the valve train in action.....
