Surely this is one of the reasons we ride
« on: March 30, 2021, 09:50:56 AM »
In answer to oldbike54's request for callow newcomers such as myself to post pictures, ride reports, and the like, here's the road I found last weekend, entirely by accident, when I'd been trying to go somewhere else.   I posted a full ride report over on Advrider at https://advrider.com/f/threads/another-day-another-glorious-failure.1416938/page-6, so I won't post another copy here, but doesn't the view just scream, "This is why we ride?"

Nice ride report  :thumb: Great country! Great photos!

The dual sports are so versatile! But I'll keep MY "old tiger" for now!  :bike-037: She's running SO nice!

Yep, solitude is a great tonic.
Reminds me of this one.

That’s a great pic! And yeah, that is an excellent reason to ride.

I agree😁😁😁
I went out today on the bike for the first time this year and..
A) got lost
B) met up with a  mate I haven't seen since Christmas due to  Lockdown
C) got lost somewhere different
D)  worked out where I was and had a bag of chips and a cup of tea by the sea
E) 150 miles after I started and a tank of fuel I finally arrived back home

A most excellent set of reasons to go for a ride

Love the road pics!  Here's a link that edits some film footage from the early 1950s "The Wild One" into a clip that brings back memories for me of riding into the late night back in the mid-1960s.

Wasn't she the loveliest ?!

Good photos!  Reminds me of this one just outside of Datil, NM.  Great riding in that part of the state!

I am so spoiled by where I live and ride that I don’t care to ride in moderate traffic areas anymore.

It is all about enjoying the ride over the obsession to ride no matter what the road, weather, and traffic conditions are.

Good thread on advrider- good photos and writing.  Any thoughts on comparing the Duc and the Goose?

I'm reminded that, to adapt a phrase:
One person's boring is another person's awesome vastness.  I can love the wide open spaces. That's how I feel sometimes traveling across the plains of Kansas or Spain.

Great RR. Super pictures and lovely scenery. Agreed. This is one of the reasons we ride.

Thanks for posting the link.  It's a shame that ADVrider is so vast that treats like yours get missed. One can't scan everything.

Safe riding

The two bikes compliment each other perfectly.  The Ducati is the distilled essence of 'fun riding'.  It's great for an hour or three of blasting around smooth roads through the mountains... to the extent that members of my tribe can ever be said to 'blast'   The Guzzi is great for everything else.  In particular, it's great for those days you toss lunch, drinks, and a camp chair into the topcase, and head out at sunrise with no clear plan other than getting home around sunset.

Of the two, the Guzzi is much more capable.  The Ducati may be nimbler, peppier, and demand to be flung around corners, but when the road surface deteriorates, so does the 'nimble peppy flinging' experience.  The 100-120 mile fuel range may also detract from its capabilities as a vehicle with which to explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, and boldly go where no man has gone before.  I took it on the Panoche Road once -- one of those places they manufacture potholes for later export to poor Third World nations that cannot afford potholes of their own -- as an experiment.  It was fun (see below) but this experiment will not be repeated.

Thanks for the comparison.  I rode a one of the modern Cafe Ducs and it was a blast.  Great engine and excellent handling.  Definitely a smooth road specialist.

You've got a well matched pair there.
