Convert Police Solo Seat on G5
«

I just tried to put a Convert Police Solo Seat on G5. The front of the seat hits the tank and it won't allow the sliding hinge to let the back of the seat drop down. It appears the seat mounting lugs on the frame must be too far forward, but I have not tried to accurately measure. Looks like frame lugs would have to be re-positioned by cutting and welding. Has anyone else tried this seat swap?

I ran into a similar problem when I mounted the solo seat on my Vert. My final solution was to use a double hinge affair, simply a small piece of flat steel each side, attached to the frame tabs at one end and the seat tabs at the other end. Sorta like double jointed. It works for me.

Are you using the brackets?

Turin,
by brackets if you mean the extra sliding piece in the seat hinge, then yes. I took it directly off an original Convert with all hinge hardware. If you mean the radio rack brackets, no. Also, the G5 is not a Police model.

I reinstalled the solo seat off the Convert onto the G5 this time using the rear rack rails and the under seat brackets just like the pictures on this old tractor. Seat is still much too low in front (too high in back?) making you slide up on the seat and tank like a motocross bike. When on the Convert, the seat sat fine and had no rubber blocks under front of same between it and frame.
Frames and seat mounting tabs look same.
I wonder where the difference really is.

I've had 4 of those and my brackets have a curved slot to adjust the rear up & down. My mounts are the police rails.

When fitted right, does the front of the original solo seat rest on the tank or the frame?
Am I correct to think the Convert and G5 frames
should be
identical in geometry and seat mounting tab placement?

Mine sits on frame & cups the back of tank. Just like stock, cept I have a Cali2 and had to weld the 2nd tab on the other frame rail. I also had one sat on coil springs on brackets I built for my Ambo. I cut the W in the front so I had just the center upside down V.
Maybe your tank isn't hugging the posts up front, the rear strap gets weak in no time. I also built up the rubber stuff on main frame in center of tank so it all rides tight. So it hooks under the front posts.

Problem is solved. I thought I was losing my mind, but it was just lack of brains. I dug out another old seat pan and realized the one that I was trying to mount had the legs broken off of it. The bike won that round. I came back in round two then today and pulled the seat cover and foam off, beefed up the old foam with some new scrap foam and put the seat cover back on the other seat pan with legs still on it. Works fine.
Sorry for the dumb questions. :)
