How about the new Ford F150 electric
« on: May 20, 2021, 10:28:52 PM »
I was surprised and pleased so see that the new Ford F 15o Lightning looks like a conventional F150 and not some space ship wedge abomination.

https://www.ford.ca/trucks/f150/f150-lightning/2022/

It will be very interestinmg to see how it sells, I could see replacing my 12 year old Ranger with an all electric truck. I have read the price should be similar to the conventioan ICE motor units.

And what other truck has a front trunk???

Nice!  They will sell a ton of them i bet.  Starting price is $65,000 so I bet you will be at $80,000 when all is said and done.  Or maybe even more.....

Ford unveiled it live at 9:30 EST the other night. It was about a 30 minute deal. Price, (likely base), is just under $40,000. They did suggest the 300 mile range was with an optional bigger battery. They did not say how many trim levels there will be but they did suggest a more contractor based model for those folks. All wheel drive all the time, courtesy lighting all round, and handy power outlets in (I think they said) 11 locations around the vehicle. It can tow 10,000 lbs. They also said you CAN use it to power your house, for up to 3 days! All in all pretty impressive presentation.

What will be more telling is some real world reviews. How far with a load, or trailer, extreme conditions and such.

In any case, when the best selling truck overall offers an EV model, it's a big deal. They also unveiled the Mach E GT and an upcoming EV Transit van.

Really a possibility for 300 miles is a game changer!  Add to that a price that is not that much different then the IC truck, and this will fill a LOT of people's needs! Granted not sure how that milagedge will be effected by load, speed, temp, etc...  But frankly that will fit 99% of what I would need.

Hi all,                                                                                    5-21-21

Just curious...after seeing the ads and the articles, the performance seems impressive, but I still don't have a clear picture about the charging.  What are the times, type of station, etc.   If anyone knows, please post.

Thanks ZZ,                                                                                                       5-21-21

That's about what I heard...nothing specific.  I know the EV infrastructure will be forthcoming.  Still, nothing on recharge time or type.  I'll keep looking.

20,000 buyers have put down deposits on the truck.  0-60 in 4.5 seconds.  Up to 10k tow and 300 mile range.

Disappointing styling, same as the petro truck.  I wonder how will it stack up against Tesla?   So far Tesla has been the most advanced although Chevy Bolt has been close and is the price leader.   I don't anything about the hyped E-Mustang SUV.

It looks really great, but I would never pay $60k for a vehicle of any description. That is insanity. Dont people want to retire someday? I see hundreds of new cars driving around every day with $500-600++ monthly payments, it boggles the mind

I could not agree more! I have been "buying" a new truck for the past 10 years and still haven't pulled the trigger. My 2007 Tacoma just hit 125,000 miles and still looks and runs like new.

I believe this new lighting will usher in the beginning of an upward curve in the EV era.
However like the newer models of Ford ranger with the Eco tech turbo, 290 Hp and 28 mpg, I’d still be torn if they were sitting side by side at the same price???
Let me add this. I’ve always been a dodge/ram at heart and been loyal to the brand all my life. However Ford is tugging at my mind and heart. Ram had better wake up!

+11. What will they be worth as used vehicles? How long will the batteries last and how will we know how close they are to needing replacement?

Cool, an electric pick-up truck.  Has anyone else noticed how huge all trucks have been getting?  Remember the days when you could look inside the bed without a step ladder?  Why do you need a back seat to carry plywood or dirt?

And then, the prices.  Forget about it!

I like what Ford is doing. I'm bullish on the company and loaded up on call options so I need that stock to go up a bit over the next 18 months.  The question is, can they get these trucks into production on time or will it be pushed back like the Bronco. Can they turn this ship around with all of the crippling debt?

Sorry, no thinking allowed!  It's the latest and greatest, thats all that matters.  The truck will do well in an urban environment, no doubt. I'm sure LA and Miami will be full of them.  But for those of us in "flyover" country, 300 miles still ain't going to cut it.  My Tundra with a 38 gallon fuel tank is good for 500+ miles, driven at the speed limit. Add a ten minute fuel stop and I'm good for another 500 miles.  I'll be curious to see how well the resale value will hold up on it a few years down the road. When you're spending $50,000 and up on a truck, that's important! (at least to me...hence the Toyota)  I don't pay much attention to electric vehicles, but seem to remember reading the Nissan Leaf isn't worth much after a couple of years.

Im in the same boat really..  Vary seldom will I need a truck to go over 50 miles..  Once in a while a trip to the vacation home what is 250 miles...  I also can just not see spending 60K + for a new car/truck!!!  Frankly I am rebuilding a old Dodge Powerwagon I have had laying around...Im guessing I will have $3500 in it when its ready, and ya, its going to only get about 10mpg...  but at what??  5k miles a year it will take a few lifetimes in fill ups to use up that extra $50k

This, this and more this!

I should imagine that a great many of those are leases, which is a whole different bag of stupid. The problem is that the insanity is bleeding into the used truck market too. You can't touch anything less than 10 years old with 130,000 miles for under $20K+

There's really no such thing as a "modestly appointed" truck anymore, unless it's a clapped out fleet truck.
