Valve cover gasket installation

On my 08 Norge, when installing a valve cover gasket do you use glue or sealant on one side of the gasket? Do you glue or to the valve cover? Or no adhesive at all? If yes, then what adhesive or sealant? Could I use the gasket maker stuff I have?

If you have the thick green ones don't use anything, mostly they find a side to stick to, then leave it bee & wipe off.
If you have old style black one's use a dab of grease.
If you have stock, grey & black-------- Throw in trash

I can’t find the good green ones listed for the Norge. Just make sure that both surfaces are clean of old gasket material and any oil. Not sure if it helps but I do a final wipe with rubbing alcohol. I have not been using any sealer on my Norge with new gaskets and have had good luck. Once I take the covers off I use my best judgment on if I use anything else or just replace the gasket.
The green ones are the best for sure!

You need to clean all that stuff off there. Careful not to mar the surface, so don't use a metal scraper or razor blade. Once the surface is clean, use a dab of grease to paste the new gasket to the head, then carefully put on the valve cover so you don't bugger the gasket. Hand tighten to allen wrench tight -but don't overtighten.
If you're still on the road and if it ain't leakin', don't fix it. Leave it alone.

Yeah, I want going to need with it unless my prior repair failed. Just wanted to know the best practice if the time came. Thanks all!

Any chance it can be simplified down to:
Silicone gaskets—keep ‘em dry,
All other material—grease’ em up
?
I know—that is sooooo catchy. I just made it up.
