Thanks, everybody!  I'm thinking I may need a bigger tail bag.  I had folks in the parking lot laying bets as I rearranged and stuffed:





You can't tell from the picture, but there's a load of groceries underneath and the box of crackers didn't fare the best.  Do you all have a favorite large tail bag or duffle you'd recommend?  This old Tourmaster bag is nice in that it has the mounting bungees built in and tucked away underneath.  I added a set of plastic buckles at each point as back up attachments and the bag is secure as it can be.  I unhook/unclip from the grab rail and carry the whole thing into the motel room with nothing left on the bike.  I'd like to find a bigger bag with the same handy set up if I could.  Thanks again!

I add a second bag to the passenger seat for the odd times I need more storage as opposed to a large bag all the time.

Having said that I cluttered mine with a pistol case.

Seriously, Kathi and I find packing a challenge.  Heck, even when going on short trips in a cage that we repeat frequently -- e.g., our monthly runs to Erie to see her dad -- we stand in our closet and agonize (OK, too strong a word, but it seems like it sometime  ) over what to take.  In the end, with our C-130 Honda Fit and a clothes bar, we basically ... erm ... take our closet and make the "what to wear today" decision in the hotel!

And, while I tease about Kathi taking three hair dryers and other "essentials" she wants to take on on motorcycle trips, I obsess over tools and other Guzzi-support items.  I rarely need anything, and with some cable ties, a CC, and a cellphone, would probably be just fine, especially for the modest trips we take. 

You and Doug seem to think nothing of transcontinental treks, so it's harder, thus your continuing quest for the Holy Grail of The Perfect Bag.  To use Kentucky dialect ... "it ain't out there."

Seriously -- tho, that was -- based on my less needy looks for the same , your own solutions are probably about as good as they get.  If you and Doug ever get this way, you are welcome to take your pick in the Moto Grappa's 24/7/365 "garage sale" of motorcycle luggage solutions.  You'll also be helping clear out my shop of things I knew would answer the mail but failed for one reason or another!

I have learned over the years that if I am buying new, I am going to get waterproof soft luggage.  Deploying and stowing the waterproof covers is a pain and they don't work perfectly, or take up room if they are thick enough not to be blown around. 

Of course you could pack everything inside waterproof bags and just not worry about it. 

I am not replacing what I currently own, so I do make sure everything is in waterproof bags.

I have a cheap setup on my V7ii  . The Saddlemen roll bag works well with my hard/and soft luggage C-bow setup.. Decided to build a rack for my smaller tail tool box.. I have all sorts of options on different layouts now.

Thanks for the pictures Brand X, that's a good looking outfit.  Doug (husband) has a top case mounted on his bike at all times, says there's nothing handier.  I'm looking hard at a big Saddlemen tail bag, are you happy with the quality and value of the one you're using?

I bought mine on Amazon for $20.00,so hard to not like it.  It was originally going on my Breva 1100, and I offered it to the buyer of that bike. He did not want it, so I stored it away.. Turns out it works with the V-7ii really well.. I can run a extra C-bow Royster on the back seat, but the Saddleman is my favorite for general daily use.. The rear rack is lower then the back of the seat, and keeps the tool box as low as possible. I made it out of some SS and even used my cheapest 120 volt stick welder to glue it altogether.I could of tigged welded it, but the little stainless stick rod works very well too. I can use the rack for my Rotopax but not sure why I would ever need to carry anymore gas on this unit.

The side C-bow Royster, and Saddlleman/bag/rear tool box, and quick lock tank bag is my sport touring setup.. The V-7 is perfect for my needs.. Here is what I used before.. The Touno was pretty much happiest at about the same speed as the V-7ii cruises at 70-72 MPH. The bigger Guzzi could be smoother at a Higher speed then either on the first two.. Although the Tuono was the most stable with bags at way past 100 MPH.. Guzzi would get pushed around at higher speeds, and stiff cross winds.  The 70 mph of the V-7ii is a nice balance overall.I had many bikes setup for sport touring, and know exactly what works for me..

Yours is a great looking bike, and if the Stornello did not show up, the 850 certainly was on the Radar. Guzzi did a nice job with that one.. Once my bike was sorted out it is a joy to ride. The 40 plus HP is plenty,and there is really no need for any more.... enough to push it 70 mph anywhere ,and all day too.. :grin:It has been returning about 60 MPG with 1000 miles on the  bike..(rural roads)Happy on mid grade, and the bike prefers it over higher octane gas.4000 ft riding area..The ability to do any software upgrades with Guzzidiag has sold me on this bike... I also wanted the last version on the old school motor. It's proved to be the right move for me.. The last pictures are of the C-box side bag, and best overall setup. Being a SC type high pipe, it takes a bit to get things to work..I did make my own C-bow mount for the Stornello, just used some old parts from the Tuono.Everything is pieced together, but it came together just right..

Thank you again.  It's great fun setting a bike up just to suit.  I can pass the time this winter just pondering my options.  I'm committed to using a seat bag for the foreseeable future, but I won't get away with 20 bucks like you did, what a bargain.  That Stornello is such a nice bike.

Thinking out of the box works well. Just about any layout look,functions well with the V-7. The Hepco/Becker C-bow Royster are my favorite bags on this. Built in waterproofs liners are nice. The ability to turn a side bag into a tail-bag works with the box on back. It allows for the Saddleman bag to tag along too.

Just going to jump on board here. My Centenario arrived last week, managed a quick ride out to get a fresh tank of petrol. First impressions. Very light, nimble, sweet free revving engine, nice gearing, found the riding position very roomy and comfortable (I’m 5’11”). Like how it’s put together. Not sure whether I will swap out the exhausts or not, we have a lot of horses and other wildlife around here so I may just keep it stock.

I have swapped out the mirrors (over the weekend) for some bar ends because I just prefer them. My wife says it’s the best looking bike I’ve had and she really likes it, she said it’s like the bike from the Great Escape film. Now we all know it’s not but I get what she meant.

I have seen the Special version in both Grey & blue and they looked stunning but I wanted the more ‘urban’ look and I really like it. A lot.

An extra couple of minutes getting ready this morning - down jacket and my fav - the Richa 3 finger artic gloves - 3 degrees Celsius this morning but dry. Makes me happy going to work!

Thanks Sarah. Yea, it did cross my mind more than once buying a bike in late November! Everything I read suggested MG were only doing these colours this year so I sort of had to get one while I could. Anyhow, might get the odd ride in here and there even over winter.

Morning. I have used unbranded eBay bar ends many times now over the years and never had a problem (like £15 cheap). Slight amount of faffing about with washers and thread lock to set them just ‘so’ but it’s very straightforward and I love the sleeker look. Rear Vision is fine. My Pan has mirrors down and low so it’s a very familiar place for me to look when riding.    I have considered branded bar ends but don’t see the point when the cost is so significant.   The V7 has a very clean bar end weight and thankfully a threaded bar so fitting is sooooo easy compared to a hollow tube (IMO). Pic below sorry the light is poor it was in the garage.

Never been able to figure out  why I'm the only one to use the Ventura rack system.  Unless you must have hard bags I find it to be the most versatile and useful system ever.  But, there are lots of ways to skin this cat, eh?

Got to ask, how does it run with that aftermarket exhaust then? I presume you have not been able to alter the ECU from Euro5 standard. Are you running it with the baffles/db killers in? Even though it may sound louder/nicer (depending upon what you like) I wouldn’t want to mess the fuelling up in the process.

I will butt in here and report my experience.  As far as I know there are no maps available for the V7-850.  When Beetle and company come up with a map I will buy one though.  Not because mine isn't running well, but due to the positive experiences I've had with Beetle maps on my other Guzzis.  I am sure a Beetle map will optimize the V7-850.

This shop offers a gadget to remap the E4 V7 but not the E5. But......they do have the same thing that works on both E4&5 V85. I think Beetle can not be far from getting it done.

Thanks, really appreciate the feedback. That’s very positive. I don’t know how many 2021 V7’s have been officially imported into the UK but it’s probably not many, 20-30? Just a guess. I can’t see there being any aftermarket tuning available over here with numbers so low.

Most importantly - the frames


On first inspection I don't think any modification to the Givi rear rack will be necessary.  The rear attachment point of the UG frame is the same thickness as the Givi rack spacer, so just remove spacer and insert UG frame.  Will try tonight.
