Question for Dan
« on: January 01, 2022, 02:57:42 PM »
Dan, I have had family members, and many friends who were/are police.
I know how dangerous the job is.
Why don't motorcycle cops wear full face helmets?

Good question YD and thanks for asking.

I think that many departments have moved away from the traditional attire of the riding boots, Bloused riding pant and half helmets, to the more European protective gear. I know my department made that change over,  several years ago.

The departments that are choosing to stay with the traditional attire stands firm with tradition.
Personally I like the old school uniforms that I wore , for the years that I rode. However I admit that it’s not the safest nor the most wise choice.
I guess I’m no smarted now that I was then🤔😂

Not many motorcops in my area. Weather? Budget?
Just seems like with all the violence towards the PD, they need to take every precaution.

The violence has not changed much since my day.
We did 2k in damage to the Mercedes-Benz we were against. 🤔

I remember as a kid in the early 60's...respect cops, they are here to help you.
Now people shoot at them, then complain when you shoot back.
I like the older days better

Here’s one for a Law Enforcement Officer.
Why is it that I see on American TV, people driving with the seat belt hanging visibly on the hook unfastened ?

Not sure I can give you an acceptable answer for that one Peter. Who knows, may have been in the script that way. 🤔

Yeah Dan, I guess so.
I could understand the unspoken message of implied rebellion in some cases, but it just became more the norm there for a while...
Dunno mate.

A funny thing about how you change with your sensory input. I was watching a police TV show there a while back and the camera was shooting down through the windscreen at the driver, it looked odd initially and I did not immediately pick up why.
It transpired that it was because the driver was on the right hand (Aussie) side and not on the left (American) side.
We just see so much TV from the U.S. that it looks normal on screen.
Same thing when I’m in Europe, the steering wheel on the left looks odd to me when I’m standing next to one, but not on screen.
Media saturation.

On that beast I felt the need for a full padded leather road racing suit and that’s before I get it into third gear😩
But note the Brando Schott old school heavy horsehide jacket that I’ve had for 40 years. 👍

I have a friend who is a former CHP motor officer. He is now in his 80's but he has severe hearing loss. Even with hearing aids I have to almost yell for him to hear me. I am sure a lot of it comes from those crappy helmets they have to wear. I wore a Buco in the 60's, didn't do me any good either.  For all the preaching California does about rider safety I can't believe the lack of safety gear CHP motor officers wear. Nevada isn't any better. Heal thy self before preaching to the choir. I can't imagine how much disability Cali has paid him since he retired. Doesn't make much sense to me.
