painted the fairing, what do you think?
« on: February 05, 2022, 11:16:54 AM »
This is a polizia fairing which came with the '69 V750 I rebuilt. The fairing was in bad shape with cracks and the support bolt holes broken through. I also lengthened the "nose cone" to fit the longer headlight bucket. This was my first time working with glass reinforced plastics and I enjoyed the work.

Rattle can, color Almond with clearcoat. the box of parts I inherited with the project had some tank badges from an 850T which I repurposed.

I used rust-oleum 2X. They do have a nice wide spray pattern and is very user friendly. Got mine at Menards. I originally painted the fairing black but it was not aesthetically pleasing to me so I searched for a contrasting off-white. I liked the color of nick949's Eldo so I decided on the Almond color.
On a change of subject, I recently installed new big hole cigar mufflers. These were a replacement for rusted through Frankfurters.

The fairing in all black and the rusty Frankfurters.

I was a little surprised at the loudness of the new pipes, It will take some getting used to. The Frankfurters looked good but they overlapped the headers by about 4 inches and were a bear to remove when i wanted to get the rear tire off.

Stately is the description I’m seeing… very polizi…very royalty escort looking.

Subtle flags off the back? Gun holster, jodhpurs, Italian police cap

Looks awesome!

I bought a can of rustoleum almond here in the uk, beautiful colour, but it had the weirdest trigger that you're supposed to use for spraying.... very very hard to control....

weird

Great job on the restoration, and nose mod. I like your color choice too. I restored the same polizia fairing for my 73 a while back, and they are made out of some weird plastic. Its not fiberglass, but some other composite. I did use fiberglass/ resin to repair it, and coat it all. It was quite an involved job, even though I did not need to lengthen the nose on mine.
I bet your color choice, instead of black, makes the bike more visible in traffic too!   :thumb:

I've had six of them now (still have two) and every one was fiberglass.

different angle shows the extension better and original black paint. It was just too much black for my taste. Maybe one of these days I'll get around to painting the Califi bags to match.

just tried the almond rustoleum on my swanee fairing.... not a success!!!

colour is great, but whereas the beautiful creamy colour accentuates the gorgeous almost 1950s lines of the OPs beautiful police fairing, on a swanee it accentuates nothing but ugliness.. I looks like an early prototype for a storm troopers helmet that was rejected by the designers

no pics (to save my dignity)

Duly chastened, I shall

paint it, black
