If your garage was on fire..
« on: February 09, 2022, 03:08:51 PM »
Yes folks, your shed is on fire and you are unable to extinguish the blaze by any available means...
ALL your current bikes are in there and you only have time to get one of them out.
Which one would it be ?

The most valuable in $$$ terms ?
The most comfortable/rideable ?
The most memorable ?

I’ll change it just a little.

The bikes you own are..
A fully road registered MGS 01...absolute horn.

A Brough Superior...Absolute $$$

A V50 Monza (bought brand new when you met your wife and couldn’t afford a car, now your Grandaughter is getting her licence so she can ride it)...absolute heartfelt attraction.

A BMW 1600 cc Six...absolute comfort.

And remember, you then have to stand there and watch the others burn..

This was not mine but belonged to a guy with the worst luck I've ever seen.. lost a classic car too.

I'd save my family heirloom.

Yeah Dan..
I was pondering this after seeing how many guys nitpick over the “current value” of a prospective purchase.
Made me muse a little about where one’s priorities may sit.
My Norge is worth nothing now due to the mileage..
But that makes it worth everything.
If I got my Norge out, I could make a coffee while the V85 disappeared.

A lot of owners (me included) will say..
“Oh that will NEVER be for sale”
But if Jeff Bezos said..
“I like your bike and I would REALLY like to buy it..”
You say no initially and he just keeps adding 10 grand a day to the offer, is there a figure ?
In some ways, the more “generous” becomes the offer, the more obscene it is.

I think it would depend on WHY he wanted it. The implied expectation that you WILL eventually cave in and sell would possibly strengthen my resolve.
I hope I’m made of that quality material...(but I suspect not...).

After the cats are safe, I’d call the fire department and then my insurers for the bikes and the property. No inanimate object is worth the risk.

Hypothetically, the one hardest to replace.

Personally, I would only loose 4 bikes..  So i think i would just let them burn, call insurance co. and wait for the V100

There’s my point.
My Norge is impossible to replace yet they are quite common.

When I was four years old our garage burned - I remember berating my dad because he would not brave the flames to rescue my kite.
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

Much as I love my V85 Centenario, I would probably choose my Alta EXR.  I would find and buy another V85 but the Alta is out of business and they made so very few of them.

I love my K1600 for what it is; a big, fat and fast two up comfortable ride, I would probably save it as it’s the only bike I own that starts every time 1st press of the starter button, could care less if I put E85 in it and I can ride for ten hours and step off not worn out. Other than that the BMW has no soul, is covered in plastic and is too quiet.

I could save the Brough but I would probably never ride it so what’s the point, the MGS01 is not street legal and my bones would be aching in twenty minutes and the V50 does nothing for me.
