Cush drive question

On a T3, do I assemble the cush drive (rear wheel rubber wedges) dry?  I read somewhere that someone recommended  using talcum powder as a dry lubricant.  A dab of silicone grease maybe?  My drive assembles easily with new wedges from MG-C so nothing is needed to press the splined plate onto the wheel.

Grease on the spiral part around hub. I do it dry mostly but have used all sorts of things from grease wiped off to ArmorAll.

I use regular waterproof grease on the "spiral part" around the hub, and I use silicone spray or silicone grease on the rubber wedges. I also like to drill a couple of holes in each wedge to soften up the cush drive action some. ( mine were pretty stiff rubber)

I use half of the rubber blocks and grease them with whatever I'm using on the splines, currently Wurth, but have used many others over time. Never use much just enough to promote movement. The rubbers seem impervious to damage from lubricants so far.. YMMV and all that!!

Something dry like a little talc is the way to go only to ease the assembly. The rubbers themselves don't need and should not have any form of grease used as it will just attract dust and grit which will only cause wear on the drive vanes anyway.

I’ve been just spraying the rubbers with heavy duty silicone , seems to keep them happy.

I just use a small amount of wheel bearing grease. I usually end up putting it together and taking it apart two or three times and it is nice if the wedges stay in place.

YMMV goes back to North American (actually, probably American) car advertisements where gas mileage was advertised... Well, I guess EPA gas mileages were advertised. Depending on how you drove the car, indeed your gas mileage would vary... Interesting, on that note, the EPA (environmental protection agency) mandates the RPM's that a manual transmission car being tested for gas mileage has to be shifted at (or at least the roadspeed-). And those rpm shift points are, in my view, 'way higher than most folks in normal driving would shift at. So, actually, A/T cars almost all beat their manual counterparts in EPA-rated gas mileage, but manual transmission cars most often can 'way improve their EPA-rated gas mileages... versus not so the automatics. So much so that it is possible that they beat their automatic trans analogues in the City rating, at least.
