Foto,
Nice pic! That is exactly what this one looks like, except gold painted wheels. Was your a blackish /dark green color?

Mine had a beautiful root beer brown with gold sparkle metal flake. I can't remember if it had a T on the side panel or not, I'll see if I can get out an old photo.

This is an '80 T model. I got it in a 2 bike shed clean out and am giving to a friend. The T has the comfy /7 seat, engine guards and clock/voltmeter mounted outboard of the gauges.  Kind of a strange model.

Will do! Battery is on its way, fuel is getting recycled this weeK.

The owner and I had to push it about 50 feet down his driveway, and then up onto the trailer. When I checked the tires, 5 lbs. in front and 10 lbs. in rear. Now I know why it was so hard to roll it

Fully expect the clutch to be “stuck” after sitting that long….start in neutral ( of course ) but even with clutch lever pulled in when engaging first she’ll try to take off in a run. Many suggested ways to break ‘er loose…. I’ve come to like the pulling up to a brick wall trick. Not an issue once freed up.

Thanks,good advice.

If the clutch is stuck, would spraying something through the inspection hole, or with the starter off be recommended?

That will have little, if any effect.

When the clutch became stuck on a customer's R100RS, I pushed it up the slight hill in front of my house, started the engine, rolled it down the hill as fast as possible, pulled in the clutch and shifted into 2nd. Rolled on and off the throttle abruptly with the clutch pulled in until it broke free. It worked perfectly well afterwards.

On my /7 I could do the splices without the tear down. Use a small acid brush extended with a dowel rod. Take all bolts out of trans. You can pry trans bla just enough to get the brush in there and coat splices with molybdenum grease.

Congrats on your find! :thumb: Word to the wise: (after all, how could you go wrong with the wide variety of suggestions?)  Move slow.  Don't fix it if its not broke.... then bring all of the service current enough to get her running safely.  Evaluate and re-attack.  I.E. check torque on heads at lower spec (to avoid pulling a stud)...etc.

I just resurected an R80RT last year which had sat a similar period of time.  Washed.  Flushed tank and carbs.  changed all fluids.  New battery. Air in tires.  Fired right up.  When cool, checked valve lash first then check torque heads at lower spec, set valves...etc.  Stored very dry and deep in garage, service history, plus clutch performance says spline lube could be deferred

Use caution to make sure "$2000" O ring is installed correctly w/ changing oil filter

Sync'd carbs after full warm-up ride.  Rode it all summer.  Due for service now

She seems to like Valvoline VR1 (dino based, high Zinc and Phosphorous content)

Best of luck....PM me if I can assist

Thanks, and I have read enough about the $2000 o ring. I like your methodology, and will probably follow it. First I need to get it started, then assess its overall needs.

AFAIK, the oil filter O ring has been solved by the new style filters. The new filters have rubber ends on them. I have been using the new style on my /5 for years without the original O rings. Make sure that no one left an O ring in the bottom, no matter what filter comes out.

Hinged filters were designed for oil coolers AFAIK. Straight ones can be used if you don't have cooler or engine guard issues installing it. HiFlo makes at least the straight one.

Note rubber ends:

Still digging my way through this machine. I added about 2 ounces of Mystery oil, into each spark plug hole. Hope that this will make the rings happy, when it get it’s first motor spin. I’m awaiting a correct Bing maintenance kit, to do the carbs. I discovered that a mouse family had taken up residence on the air filter. Didn’t penetrate the filter, so the mess remained on the top.

Here is a photo as it sits in the garage...

Well, I got the R100 started this morning. New battery, two new carb diaphragms, gaskets + O rings. It cranked for about 30-40 seconds, before making a loud backfire thru the muffler, and tried to catch. Several more attempts, and it started, ran very rough with a plume of smoke out the pipes, which I hope is just mystery oil burning off.

Discovered that the main relay under the seat had corroded spade connectors. All repaired and De Oxit. Also, the rear of the seat pan, is developing a crack, adjacent to the hinge. About an inch long.  Not sure yet how to address that, possible have it welded?

The good news is that the clutch is not stuck, and it finally settled into a noisy but  much smoother idle. I’m going to take it for a run this afternoon, and see how it goes.

Great news!  Sounds like it wasn't too hard to get it going again.  Hopefully you don't end up with several leaking seals.

Would that be the pushrod seals? They look “dry” so far, but considering the bike has not been ridden in 5 or 6 years, I expect to see some leaks.

I have successfully repaired broken seat pans with epoxy fiberglass. (e-glass)
Regular polyester fiberglass would probably work on top of initial epoxy to save money if additional strength and build-up was desired. Regular fiberglass resin may stick fine, but I did not try that. The criss-cross pattern in the patch was disposable perforated aluminum barbecue grills to form a sub matrix in gaping holes.
It looks better when covered up and has held up fine for a year. Before trying this, I would have judged the solo police seat pan for Tonti to be beyond restoration. It won't win at the concourse, but seems to be good and serviceable.

Thanks, I might give that a try, if my welder deems it too close to the foam material
