Always thought these were quirky...yet cool...in an Eastern Europe kind of vibe!  This is a nice example! :thumb:

I briefly owned a ten years newer 175 Trail. They were still building the same basic engine into the '90s. Couple of interesting features: shift lever flips up and is the kickstart lever as well, semi-automatic (when the shifter is moved it disengages the clutch).

The last versions of the two stroke twins, which for a while were oil injected and latterly lost this feature (due to the oil inj pump becoming NLA) are apparently pretty darned durable, long lasting two strokes. PITA to pre-mix a road bike, though... They are not particularly high revving or high-powered for their 350cc's of displacement. The centre crankcase seal is an all metal labyrinth type, it it has a four speed trans, and the o ring (I think) chain is fully enclosed in tin-work. Though not modern, they're not a particularly bad or unreliable or bad fuel consumption bike. And, like Guzzi's, the design just persisted and persisted. There's a UK importer of new machines... Forgot the fellow's name, maybe a surname of Angel, David Angel?

I've given some thought to trying to import one in good condition. Would have to be >15 years old though to be importable to Canada...

I have this perverse love affair for two strokes... I would love to p*ss off the Greenies here in this town 🙂 with the blue exh smoke... (which, I might add, is certainly not excessive).

Actually, not a bad looking motorcycle, but no AUTO-OIL-INJECTION?!?

Pre-mixing gas / oil for a road bike?!? WTF?!?

One would think the Czechs would have copied the Japanese on that one...????

Still...would be probably a fun 2nd bike to putt around town...and to the local pub! :thumb:  :boozing:

Practically, how would a person go overland on a pre-mix two-stroke bike? Bring an (empty) quite small Gerry can strapped to your rack, for use in agitating the two stroke oil with say 1/2 full of the Gerry can worth of gasoline, then adding said contents into the fuel tank and topping off the fuel tank with pure gasoline from the nozzle? Seems to me that the concentrated oil/gasoline from the small Gerry can would mix in short order with the fuel in the bike's gas tank. Some violent side to side pitches of the bike (with cap closed) would help?

Other possibility is that most self serve stations have a Gerry can to lend out to hapless out of fuel customers (presumably with a deposit). Could use that can to agitate the full fuel amount you want to take on?

Of course you'd bring with you your own preferred two stroke oil, on your bike.

Not so hard to do…

In the Moped world some of the gas caps turned upside down are the exact amount of two stroke oil you need for the gas tank you have

Most gas stations have 2 stroke oil in packages for  a 50:1 mixture for a specific amount of gas, like one gallon of gas, likely for chainsaws etc

Refill your tank, adding the 2 stroke while filling

Proceed

Modern 2 stroke oils mix very readily with gasoline. Not like the old days when we had to shake the daylights out of the can to get it to mix. Put a bit of gas in the tank, add some oil, more gas, the rest of the oil and fill the rest of the tank. Good to go. I raced two stroke outboards until recently. My pit gas can was opaque clear plastic, it was amazing how quickly the two mixed.

The view, through the side of the translucent Gerry can, and how quickly it mixed... that is good, first-hand data to know. Thx!

This, too, really does corroborate the assertion that modern two stroke oils readily mix with gasoline...

1960s Aermacchi/Harleys had the same feature. I've never had any problem with the oil and gas not readily mixing. <shrug>
