I have a Daytona with the lowers in the garage, without the AGIP sticker.  Does anyone know the origin of the manufacturer of the lower fairing.  Was it a Guzzi part?

I read it was made for the racing series the Daytona ran in Italy but not sure who made them. Definitely a custom piece made for only that bike. I saw only one other bike with lower fairing and that was a few years ago on a Daytona for sale. He said only two were made so unless that was your bike now there are at least three!!!

here's good write up on the Daytona:

“When the time came to develop a new sports motorcycle, Guzzi actually turned to privateer Dr John Wittner for input, an American dentist who successfully campaigned a Guzzi in AMA Pro Twins racing during the 1980s.
After his team of modified Moto Guzzis won the 1984 and 1985 U.S. Endurance Championship and the 1987 Pro Twins series, U.S. Moto Guzzi guru Dr. John Wittner was made an offer he couldn’t refuse. Summoned to Italy by Guzzi godfather Alejandro de Tomaso, Wittner, a former dentist turned endurance racer, was asked to help develop a new world-beating superbike. Guzzi revealed a prototype at the 1989 Milan show and named it for the famous Florida circuit (where they won the 250-mile endurance race in 1985), but in typical Italian fashion it took until late 1991 for the Daytona to go into production.
Although the hot rod Daytona engine was based around the classic “big block” air-cooled Moto Guzzi transverse V-twin, in the end it retained only the crankshaft and crankcases of the standard engine. Using the 78mm stroke of the 948cc Le Mans 1000 combined with new plated alloy cylinders with a 90mm bore, it displaced 992cc. A bright red sport fairing melded into the gas tank just above the Daytona’s all-new cylinder heads, grandly marked “OHC 4V” for overhead camshaft 4-valve. In truth, the cams were carried high in the cylinder heads, not on top, so the engine could also be considered a high-cam design overhead valve.
From the crankshaft, a reduction geartrain drove a pair of toothed belts, each spinning a single camshaft in each cylinder head, which in turn opened four valves via short pushrods operating rocker shafts. Fueling was by Weber-Marelli electronic injection, and the exhaust system was in stainless steel. The engine drove a revised version of the 5-speed transmission used on most Guzzi twins through a beefed-up clutch (with 10 springs versus eight) and a driveshaft to the rear wheel.
The powertrain hung from a new spine frame based on Dr. John’s race bike design, constructed from 1.5mm chrome-moly tubing with a cantilevered rear swingarm and a fully adjustable Koni (later WP) monoshock under the seat. Marzocchi supplied the “conventional” three-way adjustable fork, and Brembo four-pot calipers with 300mm dual discs (two-pot/260mm rear) provided stopping power. Cast alloy 17-inch wheels ran on 120-section front and 160-section rear tires.
With a claimed 95 horsepower available at 8,000rpm, the Daytona was the most powerful road-going Guzzi to date, returning a top speed of 145mph. “The result is excellent rideability, with big-time low-end and midrange power available whenever you open the throttle,” Cycle World said of the big twin in 1993. On the road, they found that being long and low in Guzzi tradition gave the Daytona reassuring stability at high speeds: “The Daytona proved unflappable, with well-damped suspension, plenty of cornering clearance, premium tires and a relatively flickable yet very stable nature.”
The updated 992cc engine was designed to squeak in under the 1000cc limit for various racing classes and is claimed to be overhead cam as well, but it’s really more “high-cam” as the heads do each have a cam, but the valves are actuated via pushrods and rockers, and the bike lacks liquid-cooling. Power was a respectable 92hp and with high-quality WP suspension the bike did handle well, although significant weight compared to other sportbikes meant fast riding was hard work. That longitudinal engine layout means you do still get some torque reaction accelerating out of a corner, but it’s relatively minor and something that you adapt to quickly.
Witnner’s Guzzi efforts resulted in wins in both the 1984 and 1985 U.S. Endurance Championship and Wittner eventually went to Italy to work for Moto Guzzi.  One result of his efforts was the Guzzi Daytona edition, which had an updated engine that was in a new spine frame based on Dr. John’s race bike design, including a monoshock under the seat and Brembo four-pot calipers with 300mm dual discs (two-pot/260mm rear) provided stopping power.  The result was a significantly improved ride over other Guzzis of the era, with power available whenever you open the throttle. “

Somewhere I have an old Harpers catalog which had the lowers listed. I believe they were aftermarket.

Thats a beautiful Daytona! Seems reasonably priced, for as rare as it is, and its unique  history. The lower fairing really makes it look nice. I can Just imagine what that bike would sell for on BAT...

Congrats to anyone who owns one of those rascals, I can't imagine a more beautiful design. I'd have that thing parked in my living room with tasteful lighting.

Interesting and I can understand why it is likable but I wouldn't want it on my Daytona as I'd rather see the entire engine.

nothing wrong seeing that well turned out motor but to me the fairings smooth the whole bike out and you don't see them on many Daytona's so if I got bored with them, take 'em off and go naked!!! Best of both worlds.

Never knew about the fairing lowers, I like them a lot, I think it enhances the appearance.

Not so keen on the Biposto seat which IMHO looks awful (total afterthought) and would be impractical, would you want to sit perched up there?

I had a Daytona and sold it, I did find the early models very stable with a fantastic engine.

That one must be a little later as it doesn't wear the Koni rear shock but an adjutable WP.

I'm be a bit sceptical regarding statements on flickability, especially with the Marzocchi forks.

They were an absolute blast on a fast sweeping road, but hard work when the bends tighten.

Changing lines mid corner could be quite "exciting," the design was a little too stable IMHO

If I was in the market for another bike, it would certainly be a contender, but I'm not and besides it's on the wrong side of the pond for me.

Agreed on the rear seat and the strap across it. I wouldn't trust it to hold my gloves and definitley not a person but from what I've read very, very few were biposta model which makes it kinda cool, impractical but cool! And I like the black seat better than the white single seater as never thought that was a smart call except it does match the rims so it's got that going for it.

No way I'm gonna deal with removing and storing the lower fairing to see the beautiful engine. For me I'll simply take one Daytona with lowers, second one without lowers. Problem solved.

By "Unique History" I refer to the way the engine was developed, and Dr. Johns involvement with MG  during that time period. Pretty unique, and cool, IMHO.

the numbers I saw for the '93 Daytona was 283 total made with 51 imported to the USA and 17-of those the biposta (two seater) model so I'd say that qualifies as unique or at least rare. And red is my favorite as well!!!

If you consider what a 1000S goes for, the Daytona is a bargain. I'm not a fan of the biposto seat, but I wouldn't kick it out of the garage either!

I talked to Matt at the Prescott Guzzi dealership in Prescott and told him about bigbikerrick's idea of listing it on Bring a Trailer and he said he liked that idea and would work on it. Will be interesting to see what it brings.
