(puts down bottle of olive oil, turns off stove)

(looks in closet at oil reserve)

What is "late model"? To me that means my '99 Bassa.

There's 15/60 in the closet.
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

Me. I change the oil every 5K miles as it is easy to remember. Yea it cost a bit more but the peace of mind is worth it to me. If I did not I know every time I heard a funny noise or something not right the first thing in my mind would be......why are you so cheap and not using the right weight oiul. You really screwed up now and it will cost a lot more to fix than the few $$ you saved on an oil change. Then the noise goes away (if it was ever really there) and I continue on the ride. Well I can’t resist these……I currently use 10w60 and have for the last 45000 thousand miles between two bikes. The V7 ii which I miss and the V7 850 which I really miss and hope to announce its resurrection ( not oil related).

I used ENI 10-60 changed out frequently for the majority of the V7 ii ownership. Worked good imo and only stopped when it was unavailable. Started using Royal purple xpr in the V7 ii and it also worked good if I may say slightly better less oil missing between oil level checks conducted weekly. Also notably cleaner surfaces when checking the valves saw further evidence of good lubrication when I redid the head gaskets. Would use either.

I like 10-60 a lot have used other weights but it held up well in traffic and commuting. Recommended weight so I’m sticking with it as the price in good quality oil is not much considering my use.

Anyways my YAK lube of choice is certainly purple at moment. Appropriate weight and rating hard to go wrong. I do miss the the ENI for the logo and the stupid look on peoples faces asking me is that a Ducati? And what oil am I using. Amused me anyways…….

Redline 10-60 in the Norge and Vavoline 20-50 in the T-3.  Back in 2011 when I bought my Norge new the dealer put in 10-40 at the 600 mile service. Very hot day when I picked it up. Every stop light the lasted more than a few seconds caused the triangle of death to come on. Changes quickly back to the 10-60.

Not a late model probably by your definition, but I'm trying it out on my HiCam Daytona RS this year as it runs hot and drops pressure quickly in traffic, using Penrite full synth. Previously I used a 15/50 and in clear air at 40mph and above I'd see 58-60 psi. However on in traffic with temps up to 110-120C oil pressure drops through the floor.

On the other 2, a Sporti and LM 1000 I'm using 15/50

My experience is the 2 valve bikes run fine on 15/50 (or 20/50) but because the 4 valve runs hot and has a great deal more leak paths, it requires a thicker oil when up to temp

There was a time when the owner's manuals recommended AGIP/ENI 10W-60 and some went to great lengths to get this particular oil.  Fast forward a bit, and Moto Guzzi changed the recommendation to simply "Castrol products".  Still 10W-60, though.

We had a local dealer that serviced all of the little motorbikes with 10W-50.  Bel-Ray, I think.

And, what about crush washers ?  Do ya'all re-use the drain plug crush washers or get new ones each time ?
Still using those aluminum ones, or changed them out for copper crush washers ?

Eni or Silkolene  10/60  New crush aluminum if I have one if not a light wipe of three bond on both sides.  Best to stay with aluminum crush on an aluminum pan. I do like the fancy ones with the rubber ring in them.
