1.5K is the asking so there's room to negotiate. I'd be all in at a thousand. this is a perfect candidate for customization.
How many of these priceless gems have you brought back to life?
Why do you guys all stand around ruefully rubbing the backs of your collective necks, nodding in sage agreement as to what something like this is “worth”.Is there no value to be had in the thrill of bringing something home in a trailer and embarking on a journey ?Did fence post Guzzi Guy pay too much for that V7 ?I bet if Canuck 750 or a similar genius got hold of it and embarked on weaving his particular brand of magic, all would be on board with unanimous thumbs up and indications of interest in it’s progress...(including me..)It’s “worth” what the buyer thinks it’s worth.I always feel like I’m looking at a lame, doctored up episode of that American Pickers garbage, complete with high ball/low ball fabricated haggling sessions.I hope somebody who loves it, just cuts out the BS and picks it up.
I can understand completely the reasoning that says, why invest more in a bike that you can realistically expect to recoup. But then I see guys who buy a new bike, drop a few thousand the moment it becomes used, (that’d be once the ink dries on the check), and then unceremoniously dump it because they....Wait for it...“Failed to bond...”.. All that would be just fine, but I rarely see any negative comments regarding how much money they just threw away. We’ve all done it..But suddenly it’s the crime of the century if some starry eyed would be restorer, decides to test his wings on a first project with the ever present spectre of over capitalising....Who the hell cares ?It’s a ballsy enough decision in the first place to even attempt such a task, surely it wouldn’t hurt you some of you fonts of wisdom to demonstrate a degree of positive reinforcement.
I stand corrected Huzo. Thanks for the reality check. You are of course right and a true romantic.
I should buy that lump, it's only three hours one way..For me, the cost and work involved is relative to the reality of how much it'll get ridden. and it need not be a shiney thing so long as the mechanical stuff is good.... At the least, new tires, all greasable bearings replaced, cables ,brakes, electrical issues...about 1000 bucks...At the worst, engine and gearbox repairs...a few more thousands.. For some of us the riding is the reason for bikes. For a few like me, working on old lumps is second best thing.....the best being the love of a woman...
There is the satisfaction in taking something that was discarded, forgotten, left to rust and bringing it back. When I brought this home in the back of my S10 I was ask by a friend if I was taking it to the dump. https://youtu.be/TITyjnQbvnA
