Avon Tire rubbing front fender on LM1
« on: April 25, 2022, 12:01:06 PM »
I mounted a 100/90 x 18 Avon Roadrider MK2 tire on the front wheel of the LM1 I'm restoring and unfortunately it's rubbing slightly high up on the mounting tab. Avon makes a 90/90 tire which may be an option if I can get one but would really like to keep the one I have on at this point. Other option would be to Dremel maybe 1MM to make clearance, not sure if that will standup over time. I thought Avon was a popular tire for the LM, anyone else have this problem?

I had the same problem with a Super Venom. Great tire, best I have run on my LeMans but had to go to a 90 to get it to fit.

I only had rubbing w/a 110. Went & looked at my Avon Super Venom AM20 cleared fine  it's a 100/90 all crashed & twisted now from the wreck. You need a 100/90 profile

I mistyped the aspect ratio... it's actually a 100/90 so I'll need to go with their 90/90. The recommended rim width is MT2.15, think that works for a LM1. This will be the third time I've had the tire off with zero miles... don't ask.  Thanks!

You could always run a coarse sanding disc on an angle grinder and take a bit off each side .
  It's kinda messy .  Peter

Can you place a couple of spacers to raise the height of your fender to give clearance?

I had the same issue with the Avon tyre on my 78 Le Mans and went with the 90/90.

I’m going to preserve the fender and try to trim the tire before moving to a 90/90. Thanks everyone for your advice.

Its not an issue with all 100/90s. Avons seem to have a wider shoulder than many others.

Use a wood plane. Adjust the bite of the cutter and it will work.

I've got radial Contis of the correct sizing fitted to my LM2, no clearance issues.
