Valve clearance
« on: July 20, 2022, 08:19:56 PM »
I saw a YT video where they claimed on V7s that MG mechanics recommend setting valves at .005 & .007 inches instead of .004 & .006. I wondered if this was really true and where most readers here set them. Am I assuming correctly that if true it would also apply to the V9? Advantages or not enough difference to matter?

Meh, much ado about nothing.

In the US the stickers on the MKIII say 6 & 8.

A lifelong Guzzi expert told me go 4 & 6.

That means 5 & 7 just doesn't matter, it would obviously be fine too.

Yeah, kind of a nothingburger. It's unlikely to change the running characteristics enough for you to notice.

Otherwise, you may find some who keep them on the wide side of recommended (like me) because theoretically you have a little more space for oil film to cushion the lifters.
Theoretically.

When in doubt, always remember that loud valves save wallets! Idling quality will be better with slightly wider clearances...
