Where ya going in 2023 ?
« on: January 13, 2023, 06:47:15 AM »
Always wanted to ride Death Valley.  Visit Maine and see some lighthouses.  Key West on a motorcycle (been there many times in car).

We FINALLY managed the Colorado 550 and other interesting roads "out there", plus the Grand Canyon, etc.      :bike-037:

What are your road trip plans for 2023 ?

Kuwait, Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Saudi, Qatar, and a few other places. All for work. Can't see much more, but hope to get to explore KY and area on 2 wheels.

Death Valley would be fun on a motorcycle, so long as the panniers and jacket are filled with ice packs!
I’m playing the broken record—going to reattempt last year’s failed trips of both MABDR (clutch/driveshaft) and Newfoundland & Labrador (stator). Looking forward to checking them off the list so I can move and begin planning for the next overseas trip.

I rode to Death Valley from N Kentucky on my Norge in April; spent 3 days riding in and around the NP. One of the best rides of my life! Temp in the valley got into mid 90's, which was no big deal. However, on the way, it was pretty cold in a few areas, such as Flagstaff, AZ.

Keep this ride on your bucket list; just select a good time of year and keep an eye on the weather.

Death Valley is very nice, but I highly recommend Titus Canyon Narrows at the extreme northern edge of the valley.  It is a one way trip from NV to CA direction through a fantastic winding slot canyon.  Don't miss it if you go out there.

I have one trip planned to visit three motorcycle museums. A couple near Monterey and the one in Solvang where a MG V8 lives. A second trip to Eastern Nevada to visit a couple of old mining towns and Great Basin National Park. Also a day in Ely for a second visit to the Northern Nevada Railroad Museum. I will ride the train this time pulled by a steam engine. It runs 365 days a year and runs on time to the minute. You ain't on it by then you ain't goin, they wait for nobody.

I agree about the Maine location.
Wife snd I went a couple years ago and spent a few days with Lucian (WG mentioned) who lives on the coast near Portland.
We got to see some  of the local sites, including the PORTLAND HEADLIGHT lighthouse. Absolutely visit that area if anyone can. Just don’t eat the clams unless you are accustomed to how those folk’s prepare them. 🤔

Tentative plans for the west coast of Ireland. Things are tight both financially and we have some family issues coming up but hope I can do it.  Also at least one club race day, and a weekend in Dorset so I can properly walk around the Bovington Tank Museum; I went there a few years ago and its quite amazing but I didn't give it enough time. Some more bike camping. Red Kite Rally.

Plus, in non Guzzi related travel AT LEAST one bluegrass festival.

Im really hoping to get the bike out to our place on Cape Cod. I tried last year, but something always came up. I really need a better seat first, and all my fun money is going to get a old car up and running, so who knows.

Other than work travel, and spontaneous multi-day rides based on weather, I am planning to ride the length of the BRP again, but this time on the Road Glide and then head over to Williamsburg, VA for a Road Glide gathering.  Will probably take a route home through WV, and KY.

I'd like to take the Ural through the Trans Massachusetts Trail.
Bought the new Zumo in hopes of downloading the charts.
Old Zumo wouldn't accept that many waypoints.

Plan on taking the T3 camping up to Labrador.
Really nice being in such a secluded landscape.
I fell 200 miles short last fall.
I need to figure out how to carry extra fuel.

I think the V11 should go somewhere.
Not sure where though.

Rotopax!

I also see those Desert Fox soft fuel bags pop up on ADVRider occasionally. I’m sure they could strap over a tank easily enough.

Do Labrador in August and maybe we’ll cross paths!

Back end is already pretty full with camping gear.
This was my temporary solution.
I suppose I only need them for a couple of trip segments.
Could give them away when I rejoined civilization.
I just prefer rigidly mounted things.

I plan on going over again to the Dolomites with a group of friends.  I can just never get enough of that area.  Later in the fall we will be taking the small bikes to Moab, Utah for a week of off road riding.  Hopefully I can squeeze in another long trip besides the day/weekend trips.  I put nearly 10k miles on this second V85 last year.

LOL  Ya, I can see your point. Ive spent so little time in Vt. I really should hit it up more. Its not that far at all for me, and some nice riding. I really should not complain being  I am in some of the best riding aera of the east coast. Im only about 10 min from the point the Mass pike enters NY, and im within a half hour of the Berkshires, the Catskills, and a hour from the Adirondacks. That on top of living smack in-between the foothills of the Berkshires, and the Hudson valley..   I turn out of my driveway and am in great riding.
