Hello everyone,
 I've got a problem with my Eldo. It doesn't want to go with small throttle setting. I have to rev it some to get it to go. While going down the road it feels like it is missing ever so often. When coming to a stop it spits and bangs out the exhaust. It will set and idle all day, but it seems like its struggling on acceleration, unless I wack it full throttle.  Changed the jets, one float both float needles. New Condenser,plugs wires. Had the carbs apart. R&R them.
 New points. Clean gas, new gas filters.?? Also compression is 180 -190

manifold leak ?  but if the problem is on both cylinders would be a long shot , distributor advance ..

Tach? Check the timing, make sure lower pulley is on right?

What plug wires did you use? Needs copper core wires.

My Eldo did the same thing when the  original coil was failing. Replaced with a Pertronix coil ,and it took care of it.

My Mille had most of those symptoms.

It was a bad coil.

Ill swap the coil. did a test on it and it showed 5 ohm resistance

Heat it up with a heat gun/hair dryer and test it as well.
Plug caps?

Swapped coil, no difference. Seems to be running lean, I have one sloppy slide. Ill try to find a new one

Had a similar problem once on my Ambo. Had leaks where the exhaust slides on to the manifold.

Are your wires seated fully in the distributed cap?

If the carbs are way out of sync, like 1/4" on one slide cable IT WILL act like you describe. Stick a small ruler or feeler gauge on edge down the bore next to needle then adjust cables to equal. If you run out of adjustment you can adjust splitter under tank or buy new cables.

Many of the threads seem to be looking for a specific response, however if you just click on Reply it allows you to type anything in response, anything is better than nothing I reckon
Sometimes spark cutting out can be the result of too much resistance in the high tension lead, try replacing the leads
Some bikes come from the factory with that roten carbon  HT leads, get some copper core type and see if that helps
measure resistance from the cap to chassis, should be about 5,000 -  9,000 Ohms, carbon core type can show infinite resistance.
Replace any coil, condensers points. switches etc. with another, sooner or later it will go

Smells like it could be a condenser, too. Do the points look burnt? A bad condenser causes the points to arc more.

Well folks,
 It looks like she's running lean. Havent checked the petcocks, or venting of the tank cap. I guess it's possible the petcock rubbers are getting old

Yep,
 Replaced the condenser, plug wires( copper core), points look ok. Should be getting a slide soon. Made new gaskets for the top of the carbs.

Is this how it ran when you got it ? compreshen  test leak down test.   if ok two things left spark at the corect time and fuel .mabey benny and the Jets.

Ran good half the first trip, then started missing and blubbering on the way back.
 Today or tomorrow will check timing

When I got my 73 it ran OK, but didn't want to idle. I put up with it for a while, but within a couple of weeks it was sputtering and popping at all speeds. I was lucky to get it home. When I did some searches here, I found that the tachs were problematic on some eldos. An easy test, I unplugged mine and the sputtering and popping went away:

It still wasn't idling, and it was sluggish. I went through the ignition system and checked the timing. What I found was that I could almost get the timing right, but not quite. Guzziology talks about the pulley being installed incorrectly on some that had been apart. Mine was not correct. When I re-installed it I was able to time it and it ran well.

I still had a problem with the springs on the advance mechanism, but that's another story.

These may not be your problems, but I hope these anecdotes help you work your way through the possible solutions. Whatever it is, most likely someone else here has experienced it also. I'm not a good mechanic, but I can often ride in the draft of those here that are.
